The latest news about Twilight leads us to believe everyone’s favorite vampire-werewolf-human love triangle could have looked very different.

It’s always surprising to learn of the behind-the-scenes action that leads to the most popular movies being made. Over the years, secrets of production or casting processes coming to the fore have revealed some fascinating things about actors, studios, and some of our favorite movies.

For example, in a more shocking revelation, a few months after The Little Mermaid was released, it came to be known that Disney had cast a porn star in the movie, albeit accidentally. However, recently, we discovered that the incredibly popular teenage supernatural movie franchise Twilight could have turned out much differently than it did.

Josh Peck Reveals He Auditioned for the Role of Edward Cullen

According to recent reports from Variety, former Disney and Nickelodeon star Josh Peck recently explained that he auditioned and was very close to being cast as Edward in the Twilight movie. The Drake & Josh star might have even landed the role of Edward Cullen over Robert Pattinson in an alternate universe.

Peck revealed the news on a recent episode of his Good Guys podcast featuring his guest Taylor Lautner, called “Great Guys (Taylor Lautner’s version).

“I remember it’s like 2006? [2007]?” Peck told Lautner. “They’re like, ‘Audition for this movie, “Twilight,” it’s based on a book and it’s going to be great.’ So I send in my tape, for Edward. A month later, I’m with my manager and he goes, ‘It’s down to you and three guys, you’re close.’”

While chatting with Taylor Lautner, who is well-known for playing Jacob Black, Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) werewolf best friend and brief love interest, Peck shared the news that he and Lautner almost worked together.

“I’m like, ‘Really?’ I hadn’t even had a tummy tuck yet,” Peck continued. “I’m like, ‘There’s no way. He’s got to be so shirtless, it’s not going to happen.’ Spoiler alert — didn’t get it… But I remember then seeing R-Patz playing this part I’m like, ‘In what fucking world were they like, okay here’s what we’re thinking: Chris Hemsworth or Stanley Tucci?’ Like what the f——? Impossible! Impossible! So we almost worked together.”

The Twilight Saga—the blockbuster vampire saga—was a profitable franchise based on the books of the same name by the author Stephenie Meyer. The five movies grossed a combined $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office.

The story follows teenager Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) as she moves to the small town of Forks, Washington, and discovers a family of vampires who live in the town. As Bella goes through high school, she discovers the town is a hotbed of supernatural activity, filled with a secret world of vampires, werewolves, and more.
