“Is This on Purpose or Just Bad Journalism?”: Fans Slam News Outlet For Mixing Up Disney World and Disneyland

In what is undoubtedly amusing news for the week, news outlet FOX 11 Los Angeles incorrectly reported on a recent (and dangerous) TikTok trend that has been making the rounds, sharing Disney’s response to it. The catch? The news outlet mixed up Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida and Disneyland Resort in Southern California, and fans were not happy in the slightest.

TikTok trends at the Disney Parks can be both fun albeit incredibly annoying (or, in the worst case scenarios, dangerous) to deal with. Last year, the trend of Guests trying to game the system with the dress-code hack eventually resulted in Disney changing their policy, and recently some TikTokers shared a “hack” of side-stepping the restrictions on a ride to allow their young child to experience a ride he wasn’t technically allowed to be on.

Recently, another TikTok trend has been going around wherein Guests don’t appropriately fasten their seatbelts, resulting in a genuine safety hazard while on a ride. Disney was not having this in the least, and Disneyland officials spoke out about it. Fox 11 Los Angeles reported on this, except the footage they played on television of the Guardians of the Galaxy ride in Disneyland was, in fact, EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Fans took the news outlet to task, completely bemused that they could make such an obvious faux pas. One fan questioned, “You’re showing the wrong ride? Is this on purpose or just bad journalism or both[?]”

Many fans also corrected Fox 11 Los Angeles about which ride was in Walt Disney World and which was in Disneyland.  One user tweeted, “The Guardians of the Galaxy ride that you showed is at Walt Disney World. The Guardians of the Galaxy ride that is at Disneyland is Mission: Breakout (previously The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror). This is Mission: Breakout.”

Some fans responded humorously, “TikTok trend of not fastening the seatbelt on Mission Breakout and then flying to Cosmic Rewind?”

While this particular faux pas can be funny, it’s important to note that risking your or your fellow Guests’ safety at a Disney Resort is inadvisable. These types of trends can be quite dangerous, and as Disney has now made clear, if Cast Members note Guests behaving in this manner, they will ask them to leave the ride.
