Gemma Chan, the English actress previously known for her roles in Sherlock, Humans, and Crazy Rich Asians, is rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Marvel Studio’s new movie “Eternals” (her first Marvel role was in Captain Marvel). So far, the Englishwoman and fan favorite has been steadily impressing audiences and admirers as the movie’s press tour gains momentum! Her feathery Louis Vitton getup at the Los Angeles premiere stood out (which was no small achievement, since she was alongside a massive A-list cast containing celebrities like Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, and Angelina Jolie), and Gemma has continued to stand out as she fields questions about her character Sersi’s role in the new Marvel movie.
Gemma is known for her “grace and elegance”, even by renowned costars like Angelina Jolie, and the actress herself has made it clear that her understated, soft-spoken nature–which is also her character Sersi’s nature–can be a unique strength. “Sersi is not your typical superhero: she’s not necessarily the best fighter, she doesn’t have the most obviously impressive powers. The main thing is she’s an empath,” Chan told British Vogue. “She has a connection with humans, and with the world and the earth. That is her strength, so I leant into that.”
The actress, L’Oreal Paris ambassador, and former law student (she turned down a prestigious law firm job offer to try her hand at acting) has not just been attracting attention with her well-spoken manner and insightful comments about Sersi’s importance in the “Eternals” plot and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s also gotten noticed for her obvious beauty (the makeup used is all L’Oreal Paris, by the way) and for choosing clothing that comes from sustainable or lesser-known brands, like the pink PH5 dress below.
