On November 3, ABC’s Good Morning America will celebrate its 50th anniversary, marking half a century on the air. Over the decades, the show has featured a range of notable hosts, from David Hartman and Charlie Gibson to Joan Lunden, Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos.

Currently, the hosting lineup includes Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Lara Spencer, and Michael Strahan.

Strahan, a former NFL star, joined the show in 2016, quickly becoming a fan favorite. His charisma and sports background made him a standout, earning him widespread affection from viewers, both football fans and others alike.

However, in a surprising turn, Good Morning America fans recently learned that Strahan plans to leave when his contract concludes. A source revealed that he is expected to depart by this summer, as he intends to focus more on family, especially his 19-year-old daughter Isabella, who has recently triumphed over a battle with brain cancer.

As Good Morning America (GMA) prepares for the exit of Michael Strahan, the show is on the lookout for a new co-anchor. Strahan’s departure has left fans speculating about who could fill his spot. His exit will mark the end of an era for the show, but a number of familiar faces from within the ABC family have already emerged as potential replacements.

Here are the names being considered to take over the role:

Rebecca Jarvis

The top name in the running is Rebecca Jarvis, ABC’s Chief Business, Technology, and Economics Correspondent. Jarvis has been with ABC News since 2013, when she joined as the network’s Chief Business Correspondent. She quickly became a trusted reporter for ABC’s flagship programs like World News Tonight, 20/20, and Nightline.

Due to her established role within ABC, Jarvis is already a familiar face to GMA’s audience, and her transition to co-anchor would likely be smooth.

With her wide-ranging experience in business and economics reporting, Jarvis could bring a fresh and knowledgeable perspective to the show, making her a natural choice for Strahan’s replacement.

Whit Johnson

Another name being discussed is Whit Johnson, who is already a well-known face on Good Morning America. Johnson joined ABC News in 2011 and has served as co-anchor for the weekend editions of GMA. His calm and reassuring presence has made him a trusted figure for viewers, especially during major events like the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to his role on weekends, Johnson was named the official Saturday anchor for World News Tonight in 2021, which further cemented his reputation within ABC. His familiarity with GMA’s format and his extensive experience in journalism make him a strong contender for the job.

Eva Pilgrim

Eva Pilgrim is another strong candidate, having joined ABC News in 2016, the same year as Strahan. Pilgrim has become a key figure within the Good Morning America team and is currently one of the co-anchors of GMA3: What You Need to Know.

Pilgrim’s promotion to this role followed the exit of Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes. Pilgrim’s steady on-air presence and strong connection with viewers have made her a beloved figure at ABC, and she has demonstrated her ability to seamlessly step into major roles at the network.

If Pilgrim were to move to the main Good Morning America desk, her popularity, and chemistry with the team would ensure a smooth transition.

Malika Andrews

Malika Andrews is another name that has garnered attention, though she is not currently part of the ABC News team. Andrews, who has made a name for herself at ESPN as a prominent NBA reporter, could be a surprising but exciting addition to GMA. She won a Sports Emmy in 2022 for Outstanding Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent and has become a key voice in sports journalism.

Andrews is not yet tied to ABC News, but she is part of The Walt Disney Company, which owns both ESPN and ABC. With her strong presence on ESPN’s NBA coverage and her growing popularity, she could transition into the morning show role as a fresh, dynamic option.

Will Reeve

Will Reeve, a reporter for ABC News since 2018, is also being considered for the position. Reeve, the son of the legendary actor Christopher Reeve, has become a familiar face at ABC, having worked on Good Morning America and various other programs.

Prior to his time at ABC, Reeve was part of the ESPN team, contributing to major broadcasts like SportsCenter and College GameDay.

In addition to his journalistic work, Reeve recently gained attention for his heartfelt program, Will Reeve: Finding My Father, which aired in February 2025. His experience within ABC and his personal connection to the network make him an intriguing candidate, one who could bring both credibility and compassion to the GMA desk.

At this time, ABC has not publicly announced who will replace Michael Strahan when he steps down from Good Morning America. However, with these experienced and capable candidates in the mix, it is clear that the network is looking within the Disney family for a smooth transition.

Each of these individuals brings unique skills and a deep connection to the network, which could make the change seamless for viewers.

As ABC continues to weigh its options, one thing is certain: Good Morning America will remain a powerhouse in morning television. Fans will be watching closely to see which of these stars will take over the co-anchor role.

  1. My choice would be Will or Witt either one would be great as the anchor. I enjoy watching them both equally. They are both GREAT at what they do and would be a Great plus for GMA replacement.
