A trip to Walt Disney World Resort is a truly magical experience that will bring smiles when you think of the memories. However, a Disney World trip can also be an exhausting experience. It can almost feel like an exercise program disguised as a vacation. The days are long, the lines can seem longer, the heat can get to a lot of people, and crankiness can set in. While some people can handle the stress and exhaustion, others are pushed to the limits, and they explode. Those explosions can result in some very tense situations in the Parks. Even some arrests.
Walt Disney World Resort works very closely with the Orange County Sheriff’s office when they need to have a Guest taken out of the Parks and arrested. Recently, the Sheriff’s office released its arrest records over the past few months. According to that report, a family got into a fight with a young woman that resulted in the woman biting off a chunk of someone’s finger and being arrested.
According to the report — which is heavily redacted — the incident happened in December as Guests stood around World Showcase Lagoon in EPCOT and watched the nightly showing of Harmonious. A family from California claimed that a woman — identified as Emily from Pennsylvania — was blocking them during the show. They also claim that Emily elbowed one of them. The family said that they confronted her, and she became “irate” and lunged at them.
A woman in the group said that she tried to separate Emily from the rest of her family. When that happened, Emily bit the woman. She also continued to scream at the family as she kicked and hit them. Emily then tried to leave the scene, but the family alerted a Cast Member, who made sure that no one lost sight of Emily. It wasn’t until after the altercation that the woman noticed she was bleeding. When a closer look was taken at her finger, a sheriff’s deputy noted that a chunk of the woman’s middle finger was missing.
When the police questioned Emily, she said that she did nothing wrong. She claims that she was pushed to the ground, and had scratch marks on her. The report also states that Emily kicked someone between the legs and flipped them over. Emily was arrested and said that she was the person who was attacked, so she wasn’t sure why she was the one in handcuffs. She also threatened to hurt herself and called herself “uncontrollable.” Emily noted that she has mental health issues and asked for mental help later on.
In the end, Emily ended up being put on a psychiatric hold for 72 hours. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office did file charges of aggravated battery and simple battery. However, no one has been charged with a crime at this time.
