Since May 28, 1999, Islands of Adventure Guests have been caught in a web of Statue-of-Liberty-saving action on The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride. Launched the same year as the superhero expansion of Universal Studios, the thrilling simulator ride captivated Guests with a heart-racing journey through the city to fight the Sinister Syndicate in a wonky car called the “Scoop.”
A massive hit with Orlando riders, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man earned accolades, named Amusement Today’s “Best Dark Ride” for twelve years in a row. Five years into Spidey’s successful run at Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Japan opened an identical attraction. To no one’s surprise, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man reached sky-high numbers of Park attendees, making it a flagship ride at the overseas Park.
Nearly 20 years after the ride’s Japan debut on January 23, 2004, Universal Studios Japan announced the Spider-Man ride would shut its doors.

But don’t fret, Spidey fans! During its “final campaign” with Spider-Man stickers and exclusive merchandise, Guests can commemorate the ride’s last hoorah. Universal Japan Guests can ask any Crew Member except in Minion Park, Super Nintendo World, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter about the Spidey stickers.
The promotion will run from Tuesday, July 4, 2023, to Monday, January 22, 2024, to allow Guests a chance to give a proper goodbye to the first attraction in history to have won the “World’s Number One Ride” award for seven consecutive years.
Starting on May 16, 2023, Guests can snag promotional packages to soak in all the Spidey love ahead of the July 4 campaign:
- Universal Express 7 Plus 1 ticket with Spider-man
- Single Express Pass for The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man featuring an exclusive merchandise item
The attraction’s closure sparks speculation around the Orlando location, while nearby Disney World owns the Marvel IP. As of now, Guests are in the dark about any changes coming to Islands of Adventure, but one thing’s for sure—Universal Studios Japan fans will have a tough time seeing the Amazing Adventure come to an end.
