Something’s making Muppets fans a little uneasy — and no, it’s not Statler and Waldorf heckling from the balcony. It’s the clock ticking down on one of the most ambitious projects Disney's Hollywood Studios has seen in years.
Disney has officially announced that Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will close early next year to become Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The kicker? It’s supposed to reopen in summer 2026.
That’s only about eight months. And fans are sounding the alarm.

“That’s Not Enough Time”
Theme park veterans know these projects don’t come together overnight. Test Track’s reimagining? Over a year. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure? Same thing. These projects involved reusing the basic ride structure — just like this one — and still took more than 12 months to finish.
Eight months to completely overhaul a high-speed indoor coaster with a new pre-show, updated vehicles, and Muppet-themed sets is ambitious… maybe too ambitious.
One fan summed it up on social media: “This timeline is setting the Muppets up to fail.”

Will It Be a Full Experience or Just an Overlay?
That’s the big question everyone’s asking. The short turnaround has fans worried this might be more of a “paint and projection” job than a true Muppets masterpiece.
Sure, Disney can work fast. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! famously transformed Tower of Terror in just four months back in 2017. But the pressure’s higher this time. This isn’t a California quick swap — it’s one of the most beloved thrill rides in Florida, and expectations are sky-high.
The Stakes Are Even Higher for the Muppets
This ride isn’t happening in a vacuum. Muppet*Vision 3D is gone. Monstropolis is moving in. Animation Courtyard is under construction. Hollywood Studios is losing capacity left and right, and when Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closes, the park will be down another major draw.
That means when this Muppets coaster finally opens, it needs to be great. Not just “fine.” Not just “cute.” Great. If the ride feels rushed or underwhelming, the backlash could be loud.

Fans Want Disney to Take Their Time
The Muppets have a passionate fanbase, and they’re not shy about speaking up. Many are saying they’d rather wait longer for a ride that delivers something magical than get a quick turnaround that falls flat.
And honestly? They have a point. This is the Muppets’ first real shot at a major, modern ride. If Disney nails it, it could be a game-changer. If not, it might just feel like another missed opportunity.
The Countdown Is On
The limos will make their final launch early next year, and then Disney will be racing against the clock. All eyes will be on this project to see if Imagineers can truly deliver something worthy of the Muppets’ legacy.
The fans have spoken. And they’re nervous.
