When Mr. Oogie Boogie says there’s trouble close at hand, you’d better pay attention now, cause I’m the Boogie Man.
In 2019, Disney officially got rid of Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland Resort, which had been a staple at Disneyland Park since 2005. In its place, Guests were introduced to the Nightmare Before Christmas-themed Oogie Boogie Bash. Instead of taking place at Disneyland Park, Disney moved the massive party across the esplanade to Disney California Adventure Park. From the outset, Oogie Boogie Bash was an immediate hit, with each year becoming more popular than the last — minus, of course, the year it had to be canceled because of the pandemic.
This year, tickets to Oogie Boogie Bash were set to go on sale on June 29. Those who wanted to attend the party got online, ready for the queue to open at 9 a.m. However, less than 10 minutes after the queue opened, sales were paused. Seven hours later, Disney announced that, due to technical difficulties, ticket sales would resume on another day. One week later, Disney announced that tickets to Oogie Boogie Bash would go on sale on July 11.
Well, July 11 came and Guests bombarded the Disneyland Resort website. Thankfully, the website did not crash, and ticket sales were steady throughout the day. Ticket sales were so steady that all Oogie Boogie Bash tickets were sold out less than 12 HOURS after they went on sale. Tickets went on sale at just around 9:10 a.m. At around 8:15 p.m., the website was updated to read that Oogie Boogie tickets were no longer on sale.
Oogie Boogie Bash has become more popular and in demand each year. A couple of years ago, it sold out in a few weeks. Last year, it sold out in a matter of days. This year, less than 24 hours.
More On Oogie Boogie Bash
Those who have tickets to Oogie Boogie Bash are able to head to Disneyland Resort and enter Disney California Adventure Park at 3 p.m. Those Guests will then need to show their tickets and get a wristband. Oogie Boogie Bash will officially begin at 6 p.m. and those Guests without a wristband will be escorted out of the Park, so those with tickets can enjoy the event.
Here are some of the highlights of Oogie Boogie Bash:
Interactive Treat Trails
It’s not a Halloween Party unless there’s trick or treating! But, because it’s Disney, there are no ordinary trick-or-treat trails. At Oogie Boogie Bash, there are interactive treat trails, so not only do Guests get yummy candy and snacks, but they get to talk to and interact with some of their favorite Disney characters. Last year, the interactive treat trails included characters like Ernesto De La Cruz, Madam Mim, Agatha Harkness, Sid from Toy Story, Mother Gothel, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, and more.
Rare Character Meet and Greets
Disneyland is known for its amazing character interactions, and Oogie Boogie Bash gives Guests the chance to meet some rare characters. They can see classic characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald in their special Halloween costumes. They can also meet great villains like Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. Last year, Disney even introduced Bruno from Encanto. It was the first time he had been seen in a Disney Park.
Frightfully Fun Parade
If there is one thing that Disney knows how to do well, it’s a parade. For Oogie Boogie Bash, Guests can settle in along Pixar Pier and Buena Vista Street for Mickey’s Frightfully Fun Parade. The parade is full of villains that are not seen at any other time during the year. There is fun music and dancing. Guests may even be able to spot some hitchhiking ghosts!
Villains Grove
Villains Grove is unlike anything Disney has done before. Before the theme park closes and the Party begins, the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail closes. When the Party begins, the area is reopened as Villains Grove. The area is divided up into different sections that seamlessly flow into one another. Each area has a different color scheme, music, and effects that represent different Disney Villains.
This year, Oogie Boogie Bash will begin on September 5 and take place on select nights through September and October. If you are heading down to Disneyland Resort, it is important to check if a party is happening the day you are visiting. If you have a Park Hopper pass, then you can head over to Disneyland when DCA closes. For those who do not have a Park Hopper, you must leave DCA when the Park closes at 6 p.m.
