Going to either the Walt Disney World Resort or the Disneyland Resort is known to be one of the best ways to enjoy a Disney vacation. This is made by the myriad attractions and rides that make any Disney Park visit the most magical it can be: think Haunted Mansion or Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park or Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! in Disney California Adventure Park (Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios). But one of the universally accepted best parts of going to a Disney Theme Park is interacting with Disney characters; a brand new meet ‘n’ greet—Pete—is coming to Disneyland, and fans are thrilled.

As fans know, Pete is the main antagonist of the Mickey Mouse universe. Per Disney, he is an anthropomorphic cat, unlike his arch-nemesis, Mickey Mouse. Pete is the oldest surviving character in the universe, predating even Mickey Mouse himself. Pete debuted three years before Mickey Mouse in the 1925 cartoon Alice Solves the Puzzle. He was originally designed as an anthropomorphic bear, but was refined as a cat when Mickey Mouse came about in 1928.

Fans are thrilled at the opportunity to meet this favorite.

Many others expressed pleasant surprise at how great the character looked:

Carols San Jose also added in a later tweet, “Agreed! He’s as close to perfect as you can get for a park character.”

It’s certainly a great time to be a Disney fan with all these exciting new announcements!
