Although Disney’s Magic Kingdom is the world’s most-visited theme Park, die-hard Disney fans would argue it’s not the best one. While EPCOT’s World Showcase is a front-runner for best Disney Parks in the world, the two that come up in conversation most often aren’t even owned by Disney.

Right around the bay from Tokyo sits not one but two castles: Cinderella Castle and Beast’s Castle. Imparting classic Disney attractions into Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Oriental Land Company licenses intellectual property from the Walt Disney Company. According to global Guests from the companion Parks, the caliber of service, cleanliness, and theming details are unmatched.

It was even announced last month that Oriental Land broke ground on a $400 million Space Mountain and Tomorrowland revamp set to debut in 2027. The Japanese Parks have held onto the beloved FastPass until converting the system to Priority Passes this summer, which are also free. But one less-anticipated first was just announced for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, which is (unfortunately) not free of charge.

A Groundbreaking Price Change

According to a Japanese news report, the Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea Park tickets will exceed 10,000 yen for the first time. Comparable to USD 69.54 for a one-day pass to the Park, the cost is lower than Walt Disney World’s starting price of $110, depending on the day, but the change is significant for Guests overseas.

This price update will trickle down through Oriental Land’s variable pricing model, introduced in March 2021 to curtail crowds. Before the increase takes effect in October, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea’s pricing cost from 7,900 yen to 9,400 yen, which equates to a range from USD 54.95 to USD 65.38. With the price hike, the higher end of the spectrum will jump to 10,900 yen, USD 75.80.

The six-tier variable pricing will also affect tickets for Guests ages 12 to 17 during the Parks’ most crowded calendar days, with the highest ticket price increasing to 9,000 yen (USD 62.60). However, ticket prices for kiddos ages four to 11 will be untouched at 5,600 yen (USD 38.89).

Disney fans have lauded the Tokyo Disney Parks for top-tier cleanliness and revolutionary Park updates at a significantly lower ticket price than stateside Disney Parks. That said, there might not be strong opposition to the new ticket costs, although no one likes to pay more for their Disney experience.
