Proposals Reportedly “Not Permitted” In This Disney Park

Considering a Disney park proposal? Be sure to check the rules again…

Fans of the beloved Shanghai Disney Resort should be aware that, per the latest guest reports, proposals are “not permitted” on the premises.

To formalize your love in any way, shape, or form at the Disney Parks is a dream come true for many Disney fans. Whether it’s a domestic Disney Resort like the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort or a global Disney Park like Hong Kong Disneyland or Disneyland Paris, being able to propose to your beloved surrounded by Disney magic is an experience many wish for.

A Disney Park Proposal May Not Be Allowed On Your Next Trip…

One soon-to-be Disney guest took to Reddit to share that they recently learned that proposals are “not permitted” at Shanghai Disneyland.

The guest explained that they had written to Shanghai Disneyland guest services to request assistance with planning their proposal. They outlined their initial email:

~Hi

I am planning a proposal to my girlfriend this year in Disneyland Shanghai. My worry is that we will be travelling together and I would like to occasion memorable. I would like to seek some assistance on

1. How do i engage with your helpers to take photo when i pop the question?

2. Do you have any suggestions on how i could perhaps so it properly in your venue or hotel?~

However, to the guest’s surprise, the reply explained that proposals were simply not allowed at the Disney park.

TIL Proposal is NOT permitted in Shanghai Disneyland. Just wondering if happening to Disneyland worldwide?

In the comments, guests were surprised to hear of this development, and many even postulated that perhaps a language barrier had resulted in this communication.

One wrote, “Walt Disney World released an ad a little over a month ago that prominently features a proposal so I doubt the American parks are going this route anytime soon.” 

Another pointed out that Shanghai Disney Resort is operated by Disney as well as the Shanghai Shendi Group, and perhaps this might be the reason for this difference.

When we at Disney Fanatic reached out to Shanghai Disneyland in the capacity of a guest, the cast member directed us to the rules and regulations of the Disney Resort, which do not specify that proposals are banned at the Disney theme park.

However, the cast member also further elaborated that “we do not suggest it” when explicitly asked if a guest could propose to their partner at the theme park. Instead, they recommended making reservations at some of the more romantic dining spots on the property, such as Royal Banquet Hall or Aurora.

This writer agrees with some speculation on the Reddit thread that what the cast members discourage (as outlined in the rules) is an “official photoshoot” or an event that “disrupts park operations,” like the infamous Disneyland Paris proposal.
