Disney Announces Opening Date for New Zootopia Land!

In 2016, Disney released its newest animated film, Zootopia, which told the story of Judy Hopps. Judy moved to the city of Zootopia and became a police officer, the first rabbit to do so. Much to her surprise, she has to team up with a sly fox who likes to skirt the law in order to help the citizens of her city. Zootopia was so popular that, in 2022, Disney released a new, original series called Zootopia+ on Disney+.

Fans love Zootopia so much that, in 2019, Disney announced that it was building the City of Zootopia in its Shanghai Disneyland Resort. The new land was originally scheduled to open in 2022, but, of course, things fell behind when the COVID-19 pandemic swept through the world like wildfire in 2020.

However, Disney’s talented Imagineers and construction crews didn’t let things fall too far behind, and the land is nearly complete. In fact, it’s so close to done that the Shanghai Disney Resort has announced Zootopia Land’s opening date!

Disney has shared that the City of Zootopia will open on December 20, 2023! The information was shared on the park’s Weibo account. Weibo is a Chinese-run microblogging website.

New Rides, Incredible Dining, Characters, and More!

Guests visiting the City of Zootopia will be able to become a part of the Zootopia Police Department with Disney’s newest attraction, Zootopia: Hot Pursuit. On the new ride, guests will join Judy and Nick as they rush through the city in search of Gazelle. Gazelle is a world-famous singer who has been kidnapped on the day she is supposed to perform in Zootopia!

In addition to the new ride, guests will be able to savor a number of new eats and sweets around the land. Guests can head to Jumbeaux’s Café, where they will be able to indulge in options like the Paw-Print popsicle, fluffy marshmallows, and even Officer Clawhauser’s favorite donuts!

Want to purchase some unique Zootopia fashions? Head down Mane Street to Fashions by Fru Fru, the ultimate place to be able to purchase things to show your Zootopia love. There will even be the “Zootopia Cute” collection, which will include apparel, accessories, headwear, and more. There will also be two themed areas featuring Yax and Dike Weaselton.

It wouldn’t be Disney without some truly memorable character interactions. Guests visiting Zootopia will be able to meet not only Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, but also more unforgettable characters. According to Disney, guests will be able to see Fru Fru and her father, Mr. Big. They will also be able to meet Koslov the polar bear, Flash the sloth, Yax the yak, Duke Weaselton the weasel, and even the rest of the Hopps family!

Guests no longer need to provide proof of vaccination, so all guests need is proper documentation to enter the country and tickets to get into the theme parks.
