Not every Disney fan is an ardent Disney character enthusiast who chases down rare characters for Meet and Greets, autographs, and photos during their Disney vacations or special events at Disney Parks (such as the runDisney marathon, where two rare characters did just make an appearance).

However, there are still plenty of character “collectors” who would like to spend some of their precious Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort visit time meeting with characters that are hard to find, and this community of enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn about the iconic vintage Disney duo who have just graced Disneyland Resort with their presence starting today!

As part of the Disneyland celebration of the Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure Park, the vintage characters Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Ortensia the Cat (who happens to be the girlfriend of Oswald) are both showing up for Meet and Greets until February 15!

This is mainly due to the fact that this 2023 Lunar New Year involves celebrating not only the Year of the Rabbit in reference to China and South Korea but also the Year of the Cat in reference to Vietnam.

According to The Orange County Register. “Ortensia and Oswald will make meet-and-greet appearances dressed in Lunar New Year attire in DCA’s Paradise Gardens gazebo — taking turns posing separately for photos and signing autographs during the month-long festival.”

Disneyland Guests can expect to see Oswald the Lucky Rabbit decked out in “custom embroidered shorts in rich golds with an ocean wave motif and a matching hat,” while Ortensia will apparently “wear a golden skirt with lotus, apricot and peach flowers inspired by the traditional Vietnamese ao dai gown and a matching Vietnamese khan dong headpiece embroidered in reds, pinks and golds.”

Oswald has been on many Disney fans’ minds in recent years, since Disney has only just reacquired its rights to the character after Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger returned to Disney leadership.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse tend to steal the spotlight, but who knows? This Lunar New Year appearance might bring rare character fans to Disneyland in droves, and cause Disney to make the old-school duo a permanent fixture in the Disneyland theme park!
