When visiting Walt Disney World Resort in the summer months, two things are certain… crowds and storms. Disney Park Guests recently videoed a massive August storm that blew through, causing Guests screams and ride evacuations.
With Disney in the heart of Central Florida, Walt Disney World has been known to take on hard-hitting weather such as heavy rain, lightning, and winds. We’ve seen Guests wading through Park paths in flash flooding, unexpected lightning-striking icons such as EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth and Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion, and even huge hail hitting the Parks.

And while Guests can expect to be hit with a rain shower or two, sometimes those minor rain showers turn into the unexpected, causing a massive hiccup in the Disney Park day.
@dvc_park_hoppers took to social media on August 2, 2022, to share a video of the torrential downpour while Guests were on the popular Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.
The video notes, “I thought we were on the safari? #monsoon #thunderstorm #fyp #noanimals #flood #disneyparkstiktok #disney #wet,” and also includes the caption, “When the Kilamajaro Safari turned into The Kali River Rapids.” Check out the video below:

@mainstreetmagic1971 also shares a video while seated on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover (also known as the “TTA”) at Magic Kingdom Park on August 2, 2022. The caption includes, “Escalated to torrential downpour and evacuation coming.” Check out the video below:

And here’s a follow-up video from @mainstreetmagic1971 with the note, “TTA Evacuation underway…”
Yikes! The great news about a Florida storm is that typically Disney World Guests can see it coming. When rain does approach, there are select attractions that close due to the elements. A storm is a perfect time to enjoy indoor attractions such as Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom.
Stay safe (and dry), Disney fans!
