On March 19, Guests were finally able to head into Mickey’s ToonTown at Disneyland Park once again. The area had been closed for a year as Disney Imagineers gave it a huge makeover. Not only did Imagineers completely redesign certain areas of ToonTown, but they also put in a brand-new ride — Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened on January 27, in conjunction with the beginning of Disney’s 100th Anniversary celebration. However, the rest of ToonTown remained closed as finishing touches were made.

As part of the reimagining of ToonTown, Disney took several areas and designed them to be areas where families could relax and children could play. The area was renamed CenTOONial Park. The idea was to make ToonTown a less chaotic area, where relaxation and taking time out of your day could also be paired with eating delicious food and enjoying some fun rides that both adults and young children could enjoy. There would also be interactive water tables and play areas at the homes of classic characters like Mickey Mouse and Goofy.

Sadly, it didn’t turn out just as Imagineers had planned.

Almost immediately after the revamped ToonTown opened, Guests were disappointed to see one of the rest areas had been overtaken by strollers. Prior to the closing, the area across from Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin was paved. The line would extend there and people would park their strollers in the area. However, the redesign involved putting grass and benches in the area, but that didn’t stop the stroller parking from happening.

NOOOOO. Say it ain’t so. Really dislike this move 😩😩

Now, it appears that Disney has heard Guests’ complaints and has worked to change the area, so it can be used the way it was supposed to be. Theme park reporter Scott Gustin recently visited Mickey’s ToonTown and saw that benches had been put across the grass. The area can now be used for minimum stroller parking, as well as an area where Guests can relax and enjoy a picnic.

Strategically placed benches in the grassy area in front of Roger Rabbit in Mickey’s Toontown is effectively reserving half of the grass for picnics and half for strollers. Smart move – and it’s working well.

If you are planning on visiting Mickey’s ToonTown at Disneyland Park and you have a little one in a stroller, please note that you can also park your stroller along the walkway into ToonTown. There are several signs instructing Guests where they can leave their strollers while enjoying the land.

Reservations are not needed to get into ToonTown, but it is important to note that, because it just opened, the area will most likely be busy. There will be long lines for both attractions and dining locations. If you wish to eat at Daisy’s Diner while in ToonTown, mobile ordering is the best way to avoid a long line. Disney’s hot new item — Mickey’s Picnic Basket — can even be added to your mobile order.
