Marvel fans, get ready! Thor: Love and Thunder is almost here, and we’ve got a special preview of the film to tide us over until it comes to theaters in July. The Marvel movie (which brings back director Taika Waiti, who directed the movie’s popular predecessor Thor: Ragnarok) explores Thor’s search for a new identity that brings him away from his warrior past even as a new enemy (Gorr the God Butcher, played by English actor Christian Bale) and an old flame (Jane, played by Natalie Portman) come onto the scene.
Tessa Thompson is returning in her Valkyrie role alongside Guardians of the Galaxy like Nebula, and Natalie Portman is returning as Thor’s love interest Jane — with a twist! Now, Jane is “Mighty Thor” and can wield Thor’s hammer Mjolnir just like him. It’s unclear if Jane and Thor will rekindle their relationship (especially since he is seen kissing a blue-haired woman in the trailer) but it seems likely that they will.
“[Taika is] sort of like a genius child,” Chris Hemsworth (the Australian actor who plays Thor) says in the new featurette shown below.
“This is 10 years [playing Thor] for me,” Hemsworth said, looking back on his role as the handsome Norse god. “I have loved every moment of playing the character. This new film transitions us from him going into a rebirth. Thor doesn’t know what his place is in the universe. That’s represented in his wardrobe as well,” the Australian actor joked, since we can see Thor wearing some unusual clothes in the trailer.
“I was really excited to come back as the Mighty Thor and get to share the mantle. To have both of us in the same cape — that was amazing and incredible, especially with Taika at the helm,” Natalie Portman enthused in the featurette. Taika Waititi (who Hemsworth calls “a big kid”) is also coming in front of the camera long enough to play his character Korg again.
“I wasn’t afraid to be flamboyant and a bit camp,” Taika Waititi said. We already saw that same distinct, insouciant style come alive in Thor: Ragnarok, and it was a breath of fresh air for many Marvel fans (not to mention for a Thor series that had been struggling), so anticipation for an equally fun follow-up is high!

“It’s hugely imaginative and fun,” Tessa Thompson said when describing the new Marvel Studios movie that Portman said was made on “such an enormous scale”. Waititi summarizes the movie as “a crazy space adventure with a new villain who is pretty monstrous”, and Hemsworth had final parting words praising the film in the featurette.
“We really raised the bar with Ragnarok,” Chris Hemsworth concluded in the behind-the-scenes clip. “[and] Love and Thunder is even more unique and different so it’s pretty exciting.”
