Tim Allen has some thoughts. That statement isn’t exactly new. Since his standup days and Home Improvement, Allen has always had opinions and not necessarily popular ones. Before he was even famous, Tim Allen spent time in prison for drug trafficking. But he managed to get out and become one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. But fame only amplified the volume of Allen’s opinions.

After his run on Home Improvement, Allen hit the big screen in the Santa Clause and Toy Story franchises, but he never stopped making controversial statements. He caught flack for his support of former president Donald Trump and his controversial views on LGBTQ+ people.

But despite all that, Disney stuck with Tim Allen in the Santa Clause sequel and Toy Story 4. But now Allen has some ideas on how to save the Toy Story franchise.

‘Toy Story’ Franchise

Disney CEO Bob Iger surprised everyone when he announced Toy Story 5 earlier this year. Almost immediately, Tim Allen announced that he would be returning as the voice of Buzz Lightyear.

After Toy Story 4, Pixar Studios released the prequel story Lightyear (2022), which is considered one of the worst Pixar films ever. Allen said he’d spoken with Pixar about the possibility of a stand-alone, live-action Buzz Lightyear film, but nothing ever came of it.

The film would gross only $51 million at the box office. Allen would say that Lightyear “had nothing to do with my character.”

Allen told Variety:

It’s a wonderful story. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little…I don’t know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection to this. The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do [with my character]. This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.

But now, Allen can return to the Toy Story world and re-invigorate the franchise. And like everything else, Tim Allen has some thoughts on how the newest Toy Story should go.

Allen said:

I don’t know this is where the story’s going, but what if the whole story was through… Andy is an adult, has children, and they just happen to be online, [and] the kid goes, ‘Have you ever seen this toy?’ And Andy sees that Buzz has got a hand missing, and he’s in a… they’re selling these vintage toys. And Andy goes and gathers all the toys up. He has to go out and find each one of them, put them back together, bring them back to his house, and starts the whole thing over again with his son. And I said, ‘What a wonderful idea is that he brings it [back]. It’s all through Andy’s eyes, because we made his life, and now he’s returning that favor.

Toy Story 5 hasn’t started production, and there is no scheduled release date. And given Disney’s recent moves to shuffle its film lineup, there’s no telling when we’ll see the latest edition or even if Tim Allen’s storyline will be included. What we do know for sure is that Tim Allen will have some thoughts on the story, no matter what it is.

We will continue to update this story at Disney Fanatic.
