Virtual Queue For Disney’s Newest Attraction Fills in SECONDS

On January 27, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened in Mickey’s ToonTown at Disneyland Resort. The attraction is nearly identical to the one that opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in March 2020 — although the queues are different. Before the attraction’s opening, Disney shared that there would be no standby queue available. As in the past — with attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will utilize a virtual queue, with individual Lightning Lane purchasing also available.

Early in the morning on January 27, Guests crowded into The Happiest Place on Earth, ready to celebrate 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. As the minutes inched towards 7 a.m., they got their phones out, ready to try to snag their spot. Finally, when the time came, thousands tried to get those coveted boarding groups, but unfortunately, many were a second behind and missed their chance.

Yes, one second. According to multiple Guests, all boarding group spots were gone in under two seconds. Social media influencer TheCaliBae said that he was shocked to see them gone so quickly. While he got a spot, followers said that the spots were gone in one second, leaving them without a boarding group.

Hype is real today!! That was the quickest I’ve ever seen boarding group reservations go it seem like they disappeared in less than two seconds #disneyland

It should be noted that, even though the virtual queue filled up in just a second, the individual Lightning Lane reservations were available for hours, costing $20 per person.

While Walt Disney World Resort sees thousands of Guests from around the world on a daily basis, Disneyland Resort is known as a “locals park”, which means that a majority of visitors are from the area. A large number of those locals are also Magic Key Holders — AKA Annual Passholders — so they may be less inclined to spend money on a Lightning Lane reservation (or Disney Genie+) when they can just come back a different day and try for the virtual queue.

While Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is open, Guests visiting Disneyland Park should note that other areas of Mickey’s ToonTown will be closed off. The area is undergoing a massive transformation and will not fully open until March. Until then, Guests can enjoy other incredible areas of the theme park, like Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and New Orleans Square. They can also head over to Disney California Adventure – with a Park Hopper pass – and spend time in Cars Land or on Pixar Pier.
