A woman canceled her Disney World vacation with her niece when her sister-in-law, the child’s mother, demanded she tag along with the pair for free.
Going to the Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida or the Disneyland Resort is a dream come true for many. People from all over the world flock to the Disney resort to have their chance to enjoy a Disney vacation and have the ultimate Disney experience. With its four theme parks and two water parks, it’s no surprise why that is the case.

It’s also well known, however, that in recent years, the cost of a Walt Disney World vacation has seen a marked increase, particularly with Disney World tickets, making it out of reach for some families. And sometimes, people can go to any length to experience Walt Disney World.
Woman Wants to Treat Niece to Disney World Vacation
A 28-year-old woman took to Reddit to start a classic “AITA” thread. In it, she explained she has a great relationship with her 9-year-old niece and wanted to take the young girl on a Disney vacation since they often watched Disney movies together all the time. When the OP asked her brother, he directed the OP to ask his wife, her sister-in-law.
When she asked her sister-in-law, her sister-in-law agreed on one condition: the niece could go if the sister-in-law came along with the pair. The OP asked if the SIL wanted to come along with them because she didn’t trust the OP; the sister-in-law said no, it was because she just wanted to tag along.
The OP agreed and told her sister-in-law as long as she paid her way, i.e., paid for her ticket and airfare (she wouldn’t need to pay for accommodations since they’d all be sharing a room), she could come with. The sister-in-law refused to pay for herself, sharing that she didn’t have the money for a Disney vacation, and since “since I don’t have kids or family, and [have] enough income, I should pay for her to come too.”
The OP didn’t appreciate the sister-in-law’s assumption about her financial decisions and refused; the sister-in-law refused to send her daughter, the OP’s niece, and the OP was forced to cancel the trip. The next day, the OP’s brother called to ask what happened, saying that the OP’s niece was looking forward to it.

The OP took the time to note that she hadn’t promised her niece anything about the trip or even told her about it. When the OP explained what happened, the OP’s brother, although upset with his wife, asked his sister to cover his wife. When the OP refused, her brother called her an “AH” for canceling a vacation she promised her niece.

Practically everyone in the thread agreed that the OP was not at fault in this situation.
One explained,
First, you didn’t tell Ava about the trip, so either brother and SIL are lying about Ava being upset (when she doesn’t know about it), or they told her about the trip and now she really IS upset.
I totally understand a parent wanting to accompany their 9-year-old on a trip, but if brother wants you to include SIL on a trip that she wasn’t invited on, then they can foot the bill.
Methinks SIL’s vested interest in going on the trip had to do more with getting a freebie vacay rather than accompanying her daughter.
Another added, “You’d think they’d be excited for time away from their child. Free childcare overnight. Crazy people.
NTA.” Many also noted how this was such a wonderful opportunity for the aunt to spend time with her niece, recalling the popular saying, “It takes a village.”
Ultimately, it appears that the vacation was, in fact, canceled, which is a shame. Stay tuned to Disney Fanatic for the latest Disney news.
More on Walt Disney World
While much of the news around the Walt Disney World Resort and the Walt Disney Company has recently centered around the Disney feud with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (think like the news about the Lake Nona campus cancellation), and often criticism of Disney CEO Bob Iger, and the state of the Walt Disney Company today, Disney World is often considered one of the premier theme parks in the world.
The resort is home to four theme parks and two water parks, along with numerous resort hotels. Magic Kingdom Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park, EPCOT, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park are all home to myriad rides and attractions, like Spaceship Earth, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, and more.
