‘Star Wars’ Launches Brand-New Project With Several Iconic Characters

Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia remain the heart of Star Wars, yet they're also among the most neglected characters of the Disney era.

Since Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney in 2012, the original trilogy trio have rarely been allowed to share the spotlight outside the sequel trilogy.

Sure, Luke made memorable appearances through digital de-aging in The Mandalorian Season 2 (2020) and The Book of Boba Fett (2021), while Leia briefly returned in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) using Carrie Fisher's likeness. Harrison Ford's Han Solo, however, has largely been absent outside his younger incarnation in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).

That's surprising considering how much of the modern Star Wars timeline unfolds only a few years after Return of the Jedi (1983). Disney+ series such as The Mandalorian (2019), Ahsoka (2023), and The Book of Boba Fett all occupy the New Republic era, yet the franchise's three biggest heroes have remained largely on the sidelines.

Ironically, their latest appearance isn't in a film or Disney+ series at all.

A New Star Wars Project With Luke, Han, and Leia Arrives

The newly released Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains (2026), which launched on June 30, brings Luke, Han, and Leia together once again alongside characters spanning every era of the saga. Better still, the game's beautifully stylized CG animation gives the original trilogy heroes a fresh new look that many fans are already praising.

The title also features Ahsoka Tano, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Rey, Yoda, Chewbacca, Mace Windu, and dozens of other recognizable characters, each with unique abilities that influence gameplay.

While the game isn't canon, it serves as a reminder that Luke, Han, and Leia remain just as compelling today as they were nearly five decades ago. Hopefully Lucasfilm eventually reaches the same conclusion with its film and television slate.

For now, Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains may be the closest fans get to seeing the original trio reunited in a brand-new Star Wars adventure.

Here's the official description for the game from Ubisoft:

“A dynamic team-based twist on the world's favorite family board game from Hasbro, Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains offers reimagined gameplay with cinematic moments, themed spaces, and dynamic elements so that no two matches are the same. Build teams with iconic Star Wars heroes and villains, each of whom brings unique abilities that can shape strategy and turn the tide in your favor with every roll of the dice. Teamwork and hero combinations play a pivotal role in securing victory.”

Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains is now available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 1 and 2, GeForce NOW, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
