What Not to Buy at Disney: 8 Overrated Souvenirs

Not everything with mouse ears is worth your money—especially when you're balancing magic and your wallet.

Disney vacations are filled with temptation, but some souvenirs are more sparkle than substance.

Here are eight items you may want to skip before you get to the register.

1. Clothing Items Without Checking Outlets First

Disney apparel inside the parks often comes with a high price tag.

Before buying that shirt, check Disney's Character Warehouse at the Orlando Premium Outlets.

They offer official merchandise at deep discounts—sometimes up to 70% off.

While inventory varies, you’ll often find seasonal merchandise from the parks at a fraction of the cost.

2. Cinderella Castle Playset or Monorail Set

These oversized playsets look magical on the shelf but become a nightmare when it’s time to fly home.

They’re bulky, fragile, and don’t exactly fit in a carry-on.

If you’re set on one, skip the stress and have it shipped straight to your home.

3. Overly Themed T-Shirts

That bold “Most Expensive Day Ever” shirt might get a few laughs in the park—but how often will you wear it again?

Graphic-heavy shirts can lose their appeal once you're back in the real world.

Choose subtle designs if you want your Disney wear to last longer than the trip.

4. Light-Up Accessories

Glowing Mickey ears and light-up toys are fun at night—but how long until they end up in a closet?

Prices have crept up too, with ears running between $35.99 and $41.99.

Unless you're planning to wear them again, this is one purchase to think twice about.

5. Water Bottle Fans

Yes, Florida heat is brutal—but those misting fans sold in the parks? Not worth it.

They’re bulky, prone to leaking, and more expensive than what you can grab at home.

Bring a compact battery-operated fan instead and save space, money, and sanity.

6. Toys You Can Find at Target

Many of the toys you'll see on Disney shelves are also available at Target or Walmart.

Same brand, same box—lower price.

If it’s not park-exclusive, check local or online retailers first.A brightly lit retail store section features Disney Frozen merchandise, including dolls, costumes, and plush characters like Olaf—some of which are considered Disney souvenirs to avoid—beneath large Frozen-themed decorations above the shelves.

7. Multiple Pairs of Mickey Ears

They’re cute. They’re iconic. But they’re not exactly practical.

With prices ranging from $12.99 to over $30, grabbing multiple pairs adds up fast.

If you're not a collector, one stylish pair will go a long way.

(Be honest—how many pairs do you really wear once you’re back home?)

8. Any Clothing Item Without Exploring Discount Options

We know we already said it, but it bears repeating: check the outlets first.

Disney’s Character Warehouse often has the exact same shirts you’ll see in the parks—just cheaper.

It’s a painless way to stretch your souvenir budget.

Some Disney keepsakes are worth every penny. Others? Not so much.
