One former Cast Member responded even more compellingly about removing Disney’s nighttime parades from Magic Kingdom. They detail the hardships of dealing with a nighttime offering amidst fireworks shows and high Guest traffic:

Hello  I used to work at MK’s crowd control for all the parades and fireworks (including parties) so here’s my (personal, not company-sanctioned) two cents!

Some of my fondest childhood Disney memories are of Spectromagic. As a Guest, I’d LOVE to see a nighttime parade come back.

As a CM…..I’d cringe at the the thought.

In the Spectromagic/Electrical Parade days, the nightly fireworks show wasn’t as big of a deal as it is today. Wishes ran about 15 minutes and could be seen all around the park. HEA is a good 25 minutes and can only be seen from Main Street. It’s a mosh pit from the castle all the way down to the train station by 30 minutes till showtime every single night, and people do wait as early as 2 hours prior. As soon as the show ends, 80% of that crowd turns around and shuffles out of the park in a mass exodus that takes 20–30 minutes to clear out.

So when would the parade happen? As soon as it gets dark? Cast would have to keep the streets completely clear before and during the entire duration of the whole length of the parade, which takes about 45 minutes to an hour. That’s not a problem anywhere except on Main Street, which is the last and latest section to see the parade pass. Let’s say the parade starts at nightfall, which today is about 8:45. Folks at the end of Main Street wouldn’t see the parade until at least 9:15. Give 20 minutes (Spectromagic) for the parade to pass.

Now it’s 9:35. Hurry up and get your place before the fireworks start! Guests pour into Main Street as the ropes holding them back from the parade come down. Everyone from Frontierland rushes in from behind the castle. Half of this crowd is trying to get through the mob to go home. Meanwhile, cast scramble to reconfigure the taped walkways to accommodate a fireworks crowd. Nobody follows the flow of traffic. It’s complete chaos.

Me, I thrive in chaos which is why I loved my job. Some of my older coworkers recalled when we had a night parade and they all said it was a trainwreck. But who knows? I think I’d have fun. It’d definitely be harder to pull off operations-wise next to a show like HEA and I don’t see that going anywhere anytime soon. At the very least, leadership would have to develop entirely new strategies for crowd management and get the budget to double their nightly Cast.

Yet, amidst these challenges, there are slight glimmers of hope. As Walt Disney World navigates a path toward recovery and seeks to elevate Guest experiences, possibilities are always there to revive this cherished tradition. In the meantime, you can always go to their paid-ticketed holiday events!

The return of a nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom remains uncertain, but insights from fans show that there is a demand for it to happen. There is always hope when Pixie Dust is involved. For now, however, fans must make do with the Festival of Fantasy daytime parade.
