Typhoon Lagoon’s Infamous Wave Pool

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has been a popular water park destination for people looking to have fun in the increasingly intense heat over the years. It’s known for its tropical paradise theme, featuring water attractions, sandy beaches, a fantastic lazy river, and various water-based activities for visitors of all ages. One of its standout features is its massive wave pool, which provides an exhilarating experience for guests.

The iconic wave pool at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is called the Surf Pool. It is one of the largest wave pools in North America and has been a major attraction since the park’s opening in 1989. The pool creates massive artificial waves that can reach heights of up to six feet, providing guests the sensation of riding ocean waves in a controlled environment.

While the wave pool is designed to be fun, it’s important to note that there have been injuries over the years. Hearing about scrapes, bruises, and even near-drowning cases is common. As a result, Disney has implemented strict safety measures and guidelines. The park imposes age and height restrictions, lifeguards stationed throughout the area, and regular safety announcements to ensure the well-being of all visitors enjoying these intense waves.
