mickey's toontown delay

The Disney Parks are looking to have an exciting year ahead! With the Walt Disney Company celebrating its centennial and major openings of attractions like Mickey’s Toontown, the debut of new parades and fireworks like the Magic Happens Parade coming up this month, and the Disney100 Celebration’s new fireworks in Disneyland Resort, as well as the continued expansion of EPCOT, TRON Lightcycle Run and more at Walt Disney World Resort, Guests have so much on offer to enjoy. However, a small wrench in the works has come to light. Disney has officially confirmed that one of its long-awaited Disney Park attractions will be seeing a delay and will open later than initially announced.

Journalist Scott Gustin took to Twitter to share the news: Mickey’s Toontown, which was due to open on March 8, 2023, of this year in Disneyland Park, will face a delay and is being pushed back to March 19, 2023, due to “construction delays caused by winter storms,” according to a Disneyland official’s statement.

The land was to be home to many classic attractions, including Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard,  Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster, Café Daisy, and more. In November of last year, Disney Parks Blog shared further details about the land, including sneak peeks into CenTOONial Park, Donald’s Duck Pond, and more.

Gustin shared the official statement from Disneyland on Friday in a later tweet,

“Due to heavy winter storms that impacted our construction momentum, we are adjusting the reopening date of Mickey’s Toontown to March 19. We can’t wait for our Guests to visit and experience the reimagined land.”

The delay in the opening of Mickey’s Toontown surprised many fans, and they expressed their disappointment at the change. It turned out that many fans had planned their Disney vacation around being present for the opening day of the attraction:

Disney shared with fans a look into what the land would look like back during the D23 Expo of last year. Even though the land itself is closed, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway has been open since January 27, 2023.

The land has been closed for about a year; it closed in March of 2022, due to open in 2023, in its new, reimagined state after Walt Disney Imagineering worked hard on its improvements. While the change is only 11 days, we know all Disney Fanatics are eagerly awaiting its reopening!
