Eagle-eyed Disney fans have spotted a beloved character that had been MIA from Magic Kingdom Park’s Haunted Mansion now that it’s reopened.
Refurbishments and closures are part and parcel of the Disney experience. While the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are known to be some of the best places in the world for Disney vacations, even these Disney Parks are subject to routine closures for refurbishment ever so frequently.
Did Disney World Close the Haunted Mansion?
Most recently, the classic attraction Haunted Mansion was closed for a short period, from August 7 to August 9, 2023. Walt Disney World announced the closure dates on its website for the attraction located in Liberty Square. The iconic ride made news when it failed to reopen with the Disney Park opening on August 9, with Cast Members reportedly telling Guests it would open “later in the day.”
However, the ride did eventually reopen, and what’s more? Guests spotted an old favorite character that had been missing for a few months now.
We just rode the Haunted Mansion after the refurbishment. We did NOT spot the Hatbox Ghost but we did spot the return of the tea mummy as well as the exit ramp bats redone! #DisneyParks #HauntedMansion pic.twitter.com/iO0fltcffC

That’s right! Per the latest reports, the Mummy has officially returned to the Haunted Mansion. As Mickey Travels shared online, while the Hatbox Ghost, who is set to appear in the Haunted Mansion this year, was still not to be seen, the Mummy was back! Additionally, the OP also shared that Disney had redone the exit ramp bats.
Who is the Mummy in the Haunted Mansion?
The Mummy is one of many characters situated in the Haunted Mansion’s Graveyard scene. He is often called Prince Amenmose or “Great Overseer of Soldiers, Son of Glorious Thutmose I” (based on what we’ve seen in the Ghost Post service, the Grim Gazette newspaper, and the Tales from the Haunted Mansion books).
There are varying theories about how the Mummy found himself in the Haunted Mansion. Some argue that he could have been brought over by the owners who collected artifacts, as was common practice in the Victorian era, others say he could have arrived post-mortem via the Ghost Relations Department as a sort of retirement and brought his tomb with him.
