A recent viral video set fans ablaze when it claimed that Disney was bringing a BIG change to the queue system in the parks.

One of the things that fans like most about the Disney brand and, by extension, its associated products—be it Disney movies or Disney Parks (both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort)—is the brand’s reliability. The company is known to be consistent and reliable in the quality of the Disney experience it provides (although, admittedly, that has been called into question on more than one account in recent years).

However, a viral video recently set the Disney fandom abuzz with the claim it made about a big change Disney was bringing to its theme parks.

Disney Allegedly Makes All Queues Virtual 

Per a recent viral video, Disney allegedly made some notable changes to the queuing system in the theme parks. The video explained that Disney World would soon remove all lines from its rides. Instead, the Disney park was going to make all lines virtual, thereby allowing guests more freedom to go about the parks.

As the video explained it, “They’re eliminating lines because when you’re not in line, you’re spending money.”

It continues by explaining the virtual queue process, saying that how it works is guests will join a virtual queue through the My Disney Experience app. On joining the virtual queue, guests will be given a return time, and then when it’s time to go on the ride, guests can scan their Magic Bands to ride it.

Is the Video Real?

Fans were set ablaze by this idea. Some felt it was the worst possible idea for Disney World to enact, yet others thought it would be a great change to bring to the theme parks.

One commented, “Great more time spent on your phone 🙄.”

Another recalled other issues that the parks have been facing: “They will stop pooping in the lines, what about the homeless people that have been allowed to live there?”

However, many insisted Disney CEO Bob Iger needed to pay attention to the video because this virtual queue process was exactly what Disney needed. “Can someone tag Iger? Sounds like a good idea.”

The reality is the video is complete satire. It was made by satirical news site Mouse Trap News, which is known for its humorous take on Disney Parks news. It is certainly interesting though to note how many were excited by the possibility of this coming to pass.

Is Disney Still Doing a Virtual Queue?

Yes! Disney does currently use a virtual queue system in the Walt Disney World Resort for some of its rides. Currently, both Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and TRON: Lightcycle/Run at Magic Kingdom operate with a virtual queue system.  In addition, there is a Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance virtual queue system in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park as well!

Disney also adds the following instructions for guests who intend to use a virtual queue:

Each Guest can request to enter the virtual queue no more than once per day during regular park hours. Before requesting to join a virtual queue, Guests must have valid admission and may need a theme park reservation depending on the type of admission and date of their visit.

This question is one that is subjective, and fans have expressed different opinions over the years. While the specific speed is rarely spoken about, many believe that Individual Lightning Lane has better value than the Disney virtual queue system when it comes to certain rides.

Love the Maldives explains, “This Individual Lightning Lane is actually a better value because wait times in the virtual queue are much longer than those at Cosmic Rewind, and Lightning Lane waits are lower. That means better overall time savings.”
