In shocking and frankly uncharacteristic news of Disney Cast Members, a Guest shared they felt a CM practically insulted their diabetic wife.
The moniker of “The Most Magical Place on Earth” is one that Walt Disney World Resort has earned in spades. From the various rides and attractions on offer—think Space Mountain or Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park—to the excellent dining options, and character meet ‘n’ greet experiences for Guests, there’s much to be celebrated about the Disney experience and a Walt Disney World vacation.

The heart of the Disney experience are Disney Cast Members. Cast Members are incredibly hardworking individuals who are extensively trained to make sure that all Guests have the most magical experience they could have. But occasionally, Guests will report surprising and shocking behavior on the part of Cast Members, sharing their surprise since Cast Members are known to be the best part of any Disney Park and Disney vacation.
Most recently, one Guest shared a story of similarly unbelievable behavior on the part of a Cast Member and then ended up getting into a fight about it online with fellow Guests.
The Guest, in a now deleted-Reddit post, shared,
Next time you might want to leave /that at home.
This is what security for the monorail suggested my wife do with her insulin at the Contemporary. I didn’t even realize Juvenile Diabetes was a choice. Is she just supposed to die in his opinion? Or is she just supposed to feel guilty for having diabetes?
While this story alone is shocking enough, what transpired next adds more. Many commenters in the thread sympathized with the OP, sharing that they were sorry the OP had to deal with that. Some also added that perhaps the Cast Member was acting out of ignorance rather than malice—which while still unacceptable, was a decidedly different situation than the OP reportedly described.
However, this is where the situation escalated, and the sub-Reddit moderators stepped in, deleting the OP’s post and many of his comments for his “vitriolic responses.”
It’s important to note this is only one experience detailed of a Cast Member seemingly insulting a Guest with a medical need, and there are many, many instances, some even shared in the comments of this particular discussion, about how Cast Members have been incredibly helpful to Disney Guests. However, this is certainly an inappropriate way to respond to a medical need from a Guest.
It’s also important to note that being courteous and cordial with both Cast Members and fellow Guests is a must, and behaviors like “name-calling” are certainly not-condoned, especially at the Disney Parks.
