Disney Debating The Future of Pandora – The World of Avatar

Pandora – The World of Avatar is one of the most popular areas of Disney's Animal Kingdom. Its beautiful design, high-tech attractions, and detailed adaption of the movies have made it a staple when visiting the Walt Disney World Resort.

Pandora Attractions

Its main attractions include Avatar Flight of Passage and the Na'vi River Journey. Avatar Flight of Passage is a 3D simulator ride that has guests ride a “banshee” and soar over the breathtaking landscape of Pandora.

The Na'vi River Journey is a slow-moving boat ride (not unlike “it's a small world”) where guests enjoy a scenic trip through the bioluminescent forests of Pandora, including coming face to face with the Shaman of Songs.

Other noteworthy stops in the area include the Windtraders shop, where you can buy your very own interactive banshee that sits on your shoulder, and Satu'li Canteen, where you can enjoy a quick bite to eat.

Avatar Expansion?

The Walt Disney Company has teased bringing Avatar attractions to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim in the past year. Part of the proposed Disneyland Forward project includes such an area.

However, there has been no official confirmation of breaking ground just yet.

But this past week, there has been an odd development. Avatar producer John Landau shared on Instagram that he had visited Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters.

Captioned with his post, Landau wrote, “Had a great day at @waltdisneyimagineering talking about the future.”

One can only imagine what that is referring to.

Is he discussing incorporating future Avatar films into the parks? Are they debating the logistics of Avatar and the Disneyland Forward project? Are they brainstorming ways to add more rides or shows to Pandora at Disney's Animal Kingdom?

No one quite knows the answer…but whether these talks/debates/secret conversations result in Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort, we will try to keep you updated!

Steven

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
