It’s been just about one year since Bob Iger returned as CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and to say that things have been difficult would be an understatement. Between trying to make Disney+ successful, keeping the theme parks a desirable vacation destination, having a billionaire trying to take over the board of directors, and Disney’s struggle at the box office, Iger has a lot on his plate.

One of Disney’s biggest struggles is the battle that it is waging against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Ever since ex-Disney CEO Bob Chapek spoke out against a bill the governor championed, he has continuously attacked the House of Mouse. The governor — who is currently campaigning to become the Republican nominee for President — cannot escape his fight against Mickey Mouse.

One thing that DeSantis and his fellow Republicans frequently attack Disney for is what they consider its “woke” policies and ideologies. Disney recently changed its cast member dress code requirements to allow cast members to where whatever costume/uniform pieces they feel most comfortable in. That means that some male cast members have been seen wearing skirts instead of pants.
Then, there is the fact that Disney is adding more LGBTQ+ characters to its films and television shows. And who could forget the uproar when Disney cast Halle Bailey — a black actress — in the lead role for its live-action remake, The Little Mermaid?
For months, Iger has stood by Disney’s decision to create content that represents what the world looks like today. He has also praised Disney’s new Key in its code of conduct. For years, Disney had Four Keys that cast members had to learn and follow — Show, Efficiency, Safety, and Courtesy. Then, in March 2021, Disney added Inclusion to its Keys. Cast members now feel safer than ever when sharing their gender identity or sexual orientation.
However, in a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Disney has finally conceded that its “woke” policies and public perception have a possibility of hurting the company and its bottom line.
“we face risks relating to misalignment with public and consumer tastes and preferences for entertainment, travel and consumer products… The success of our businesses depends on our ability to consistently create compelling content,” and that “Generally, our revenues and profitability are adversely impacted when our entertainment offerings and products, as well as our methods to make our offerings and products available to consumers, do not achieve sufficient consumer acceptance. Further, consumers’ perceptions of our position on matters of public interest, including our efforts to achieve certain of our environmental and social goals, often differ widely and present risks to our reputation and brands.”

Back in September, Iger said that he was hoping to “quiet the noise” in the battle that the company was fighting against hard-line conservatives and Governor DeSantis. However, many wondered if it was too late. There are still a lot of people who are mad at Disney for things like closing Splash Mountain and retheming it as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
It is also important to note that, while it may be convenient for DeSantis to use “woke” as a trigger word against Disney, his fight with Mickey Mouse is not helping his cause. DeSantis has been called out for openly retaliating against Disney by a number of prominent Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and conservative personalities like Megyn Kelly.
Most recently, Florida State Senator Linda Stewart (a Democrat), said that she plans to introduce a bill to terminate the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and reinstate the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The CFTOD is a board of DeSantis loyalists that took over when DeSantis and the Republican-led state legislature stripped Disney of its right to self-govern back in February 2023. It was the first major retaliatory action DeSantis took against Disney after Chapek spoke out against the state’s Parental Rights in Education Bill.
Is Disney being considered “woke” really a bad thing? Let us know in the comments!
Their woke policies is not only a risk to them, it has already cost them hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office this year alone. DEI policies are fundamentally flawed because before they do anything else, they first separate people into groups based off of gender, race, and sexual orientation so they can then assess which group has it worse. And philosophy based off of seeing the world through a lens of oppression will inevitably backfire and separate people. DEI is ironically the most illiberal aspect of modern society.
Yes it’s a huge problem, white America is America and what built Disney being a White business and cultural icon. They completely lost their minds. They think they can just feed White America anything and they will lap it up was stupid.
It’s obvious to everyone Disney got tricked by the Democrats into honking they could extend the Mickey Mouse Copyright. If they had stayed out of politics both sides probably would’ve given them the copyright extension . Most Americans would’ve been 100% fine with it being extended to.
Yet Disney decided to remake every classic film and excluded Whites from them. The woke media tried saying the old ones will still be there. But kids would assume the characters were always not white. Then they keep making more stories on them with them being 6% of the population .
Blacks American needs to learn to do their own stuff. This culture war just reignited the flames of hatred and it was the blacks this time who started it. It’s going to get much worse for them in the future because of what they did since 2020 when they lead the public lynching of Derek Chauvin for just doing his job. They left out tons of evidence including video evidence .
This so why MLK and Malcolm X told black America to
Be wary of the White Liberal.
