Planning a dream vacation to Disney World can be an exciting experience, but sometimes unexpected financial changes can throw a wrench in your plans. Change the Date and Secure Your Investment

Reddit came to the rescue with valuable advice for those who can no longer afford a booked trip to Disney. Responders to someone wondering what to do in this situation say to change the date of your trip rather than cancel it altogether. By contacting Disney World’s customer service, you can request to push your vacation out later, typically within the same calendar year or even into the following year.

Although changing the date may result in a price adjustment for your room, it ensures you won’t lose the money you’ve invested in hotel reservations. Moreover, if any discounts or special offers become available in the future, you can reach out to Disney again and have them applied to your revised trip, potentially saving you even more.

Hotel reservations are often refundable. However, tickets are not as versatile. They can be switched, which is why this scheme works well. You can get the money returned to you for the hotel reservation when postponing your Disney vacation and moving the ticket dates until you can afford it.

Benefits of Changing the Date

You can reap several benefits by rescheduling your Disney World trip instead of canceling it. Firstly, it allows you to retain the excitement and anticipation of your dream vacation, ensuring that your efforts in planning and saving don’t go to waste. Secondly, you won’t have to worry about losing any non-refundable payments made towards hotel reservations. Instead, you can use those funds effectively by applying them to the new trip. Lastly, deferring your vacation to a later date provides additional time to stabilize your finances, allowing for a more comfortable and stress-free experience when you embark on your Disney adventure.

One responder broke it down perfectly:

If you booked a room and ticket package through The Walt Disney Travel Company, or an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, your room and ticket package is 100% refundable 30 or more days out. Inside 30 days but up to a few days before check-in everything but your deposit is refundable. The few days before 100% is non-refundable.

If you booked Room only and added tickets, the room only portion is refundable as above. But the tickets would not be.

If you did the tickets separately, call Disney and move your trip and pay the difference in price (if any). Just know if the ticket prices are cheaper on the new dates, you won’t get a refund.

If you booked off property hotel, that depends on the hotel.
