A guest shared their frustration that they spent a whopping $140 to go on a single ride while visiting a Disney theme park.
Any Disney guest is well aware of the reality of how expensive going to a Disney Park—be it the Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort—can be, especially with the price increases in recent years. Particularly during former Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s tenure, many noticed how the prices of many things Disney, be that Disney Cruise Line experiences or going to a theme park, just shot up.
Recently, however, a guest reported spending $140 to go on one Disney Park ride, and this time it wasn’t quite on Disney.
Ride Breakdowns Plague Disney After Guest Buys Expensive Park Hopper Ticket
Ride breakdowns are part and parcel of the Disney experience, but they can be incredibly frustrating to experience after guests have spent inordinate amounts of money on getting a ticket to the Southern California Disney resort. Recently a guest explained that they purchased a one day park hopper ticket for both themself and their son, without realizing that Disney California Adventure Park closed at 5 p.m.
After going over only in the afternoon, the pair were plagued by ride breakdowns as well. Here’s the story.

The guest explained, “I freely admit I’m the dummy. I got one day park hoppers today for my son and I, not realizing that California Adventure closed at 5 PM. We went over around 1 pm, and rides kept breaking down. After a meal stop and a ice cream stop among breakdowns, hoping for rides to come back up, we got on one ride (Guardian of the Galaxy).”
They also added, “By then it was 4:30 and cast were letting people know the park was closing soon. So like a bigger dummy I asked if was just maybe possible to refund the park hopper part of my ticket (I mean, I know the answer is ‘no’), so I left frustrated.”
The situation was certainly unfortunate and not entirely on the guest nor entirely on Disney. Guests in the comments, however, illustrated a notable point to the OP.
One cast member shared, “I work in the Park, and you actually are able to go to guest relations and talk to them about it. Mention the breakdowns and the fact the park was closing early. NO GUARANTEE – I do not speak for the company or display any of its intents -, but its worth a shot : P”
Another guest agreed, “I once bought genie+ and it only ended up getting me on one ride due to closures and low availability. I talked to a guest relations [cast member] and they refunded the purchase for me. I was super kind about it, which I bet helped, so I definitely second this and say you should give it a try.”
While it’s unclear if the guest would have achieved this goal, it’s certainly a frustrating end to an empty Disney day.
