How to Make the Disney Princesses as Cupcakes

A few years ago I came across this adorable Disney Princess board game. I have since kept the tiny Disney princess cupcakes on my shelf, wondering if I could make them myself. After consulting my Disney Princess cupcake book, I found it was easy to take store-bought cake box mixes and make something truly magical. Here are the results!

Snow White

“The Fairest of them All” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Red Velvet cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 24 oz white chocolate
  • 8 oz heavy whipping cream
  • Red, yellow, and blue tri-colored sprinkles
  • Miniature apple fondant garnish
  • Blue cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty red velvet cake mix in a large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with blue cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Make white chocolate ganache: microwave chocolate in microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute to soften, bring heavy whipping cream to a simmer and pour over chocolate, let set for 5 minutes, whisk gently, allow to stiffen.
  6. Cover tops of cupcakes with white chocolate ganache.
  7. Sprinkle on tri-colored sprinkles.
  8. Adorn with small imitation apple for decoration.

“A Wish Your Heart Makes” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Classic White cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Yellow Icing
  • White icing
  • Glass Slipper fondant garnish
  • Pink cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty classic white cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with pink cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Ice cupcakes with smoothly with yellow icing.
  6. Pipe icing on top of white icing in a spiraled lace pattern.
  7. Adorn with small imitation glass slipper for decoration.

Aurora

The “Briar Rose” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Classic White cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Pink and Blue Icing
  • Gold crown fondant garnish
  • Pink cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty classic white cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with pink cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe blue and pink roses onto cupcakes, alternating between colors.
  6. Adorn with small imitation gold crown for decoration.

Ariel

“The Little Mermaid” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Classic White cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Blue Icing
  • Seashell fondant garnish
  • Purple cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty classic white cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with purple cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe blue icing onto cupcakes in classic swirl formation.
  6. Adorn with small purple imitation seashell for decoration.

Belle

The “Beauty” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Yellow and Pink Icing
  • Rose fondant garnish
  • Yellow cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty chocolate cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with yellow cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe yellow icing onto cupcakes in classic swirl formation, allow to firm.
  6. Pipe pink icing directly on top of yellow icing for layered effect.
  7. Adorn with small red rose for decoration.

Jasmine

The “Desert Jewel” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Purple Icing
  • Magic Lamp fondant garnish
  • Teal cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty chocolate cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with teal cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe purple icing onto cupcakes in classic swirl formation.
  6. Adorn with a small Geenie lamp for decoration.

Pocahontas

The “Colors of the Wind” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Yellow cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Chocolate Fudge Icing
  • Chocolate Sprinkles
  • Leaf fondant garnish
  • Beige cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty yelow cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with beige cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Ice chocolate fudge icing onto cupcakes smoothly.
  6. Gently rotate cupcake onto a plate of chocolate sprinkles, covering its sides.
  7. Adorn with fondant leaf for decoration.

Mulan

The “Greatest Honor” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate cake box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Pink Icing
  • Small fan fondant garnish
  • Red cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty double chocolate cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with red cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe pink icing onto cupcakes smoothly.
  6. Adorn with small fan for decoration.

Tiana

The “Tiana’s Palace” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Pink Velvet box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Green Icing
  • Small pink lotus fondant garnish
  • Gold crown stickers
  • Cream colored cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty pink velvet cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with cream colored cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe layers of green icing in leaf shapes, layering repeatedly.
  6. Adorn with small pink lotus for decoration.
  7. Add small gold crown sticker to cupcake paper to complete the look.

Rapunzel

The “Lost Princess” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Purple Funfetti box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Yellow Icing
  • Flower Sprinkles
  • Small fondant sun for garnish
  • Violet cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty purple funfetti cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with violet colored cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe small layers of yellow icing in a braid pattern along the top of cupcakes.
  6. Sprinkle top of cupcakes with floral sprinkles.
  7. Adorn with small yellow sun for decoration.

Moana

The “Heart of the Ocean” Cupcake

Ingredients:

  • Butter Pecan box mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Blue and White Icing
  • Blue Luster Dust
  • Small fondant boat for garnish
  • Orange cupcake paper

Directions:

  1. Empty butter pecan cake mix in large bowl, combine with eggs, water, and oil.
  2. Line cupcake tray with orange colored cupcake papers.
  3. Bake cupcakes according to box instructions.
  4. Remove cupcakes and allow to cool.
  5. Pipe on blue icing and pull away in a dragging motion, creating a wave.
  6. Sprinkle icing wave with edible blue luster dust.
  7. Squeeze a small amount of white icing on the crest of the wave.
  8. Adorn with small boar for decoration.
