The official album description reads:
On her new album In Real Life, Mandy Moore shares a window into her world and all that illuminates it: the quiet heartaches and ineffable joys, crushing setbacks and life-changing leaps of faith. The Los Angeles-based artist’s seventh full-length brings a new level of self-possession to her songwriting, imbuing each track with both detailed storytelling and lucid self-reflection.
Her first single from the album, “In Real Life”, gave fans a preview of the album’s themes. The title single takes a look at the difference between the everyday lived experiences of individuals and what others see, or alternatively what we intentionally show the world.
This is a perspective that is obviously true for those who have lived their lives in the spotlight like Moore, but it has become increasingly relevant to a generation growing up in the world of social media. Sometimes it can be difficult to unplug, unwind, and gain perspective in a world that is constantly connected. In real life and in real-time, there are things we need to do, people who need us, and joy to be found.
But I’m different now, I’m not sure how
The world don’t revolve around me (ooh)
Coming out of the dark
With you in my arms
We see whatever we needed to seeIn real life, somebody loves me
In real life, somebody needs me
Her music video for the first single featured real footage of Moore with her family, along with other celebrities, going about their daily routines in their homes. This included fellow Disney veteran Hilary Duff, seen caring for her three children Luca, Banks, and Mae.
Little Dreams
Moore’s second single for the album, “Little Dreams”, was released on April 5 and expands on the themes of life and love detailed in the album description with an upbeat infectious sound.
What’s the missing puzzle piece
That’s gonna make me whole
Is it some kind of alchemy
Turning lead to gold
Shifted priorities
Shaking up my house
Deep dive on a memory
Got me overwhelmedSomething about the little dreams
Gets us through another day
Rolling with the little dreams
Instead of waiting on a bigger wave
I found it in the lines of my fingerprints
It’s written in my DNA
Something about the little dreams, little dreams
Something about the little dreams, little dreamsHaving trouble with the melody
But I know the words
A touch of uncertainty
Never really hurts
Craving simplicity
Take only what you need
Found out that everything
Comes down to you and meSomething about the little dreams
Gets us through another day
Rolling with the little dreams
Instead of waiting on a bigger wave
I found it in the lines of my fingerprints
It’s written in my DNA
Something about the little dreams, little dreams
Something about the little dreams, little dreamsTelling time with spiderwebs
Digging myself deeper in my mind
What hasn’t happened yet
Won’t leave me hanging on the lineSomething about the little dreams
Gets us through another day
Rolling with the little dreams
Instead of waiting on a bigger wave
I found it in the lines of my fingerprints
It’s written in my DNA
Something about the little dreams, little dreams
Something about the little dreams, little dreams
Rolling with the little dreams, little dreams
You can hear “Little Dreams” on the In Real Life album out on May 10, and see Mandy Moore live on the “In Real Life” Tour starting this June.
