Jonathan Majors has become a massive player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his first appearance as Kang the Conqueror in the Disney+ Loki series. However, his future as the iconic villain has become unclear after the actor was arrested last year. While his trial was set to commence on August 3, Jonathan Majors must now wait another month to begin the proceedings determining his fate.
Jonathan Majors Court Case Delayed
The controversial Marvel star, who faces charges of domestic violence, left the courtroom with a date postponed until September 6. He has been embroiled in this legal battle since March 2022. His ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, accused him of strangulation, assault, and harassment, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges. Majors, however, has consistently denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
According to Variety, the case was delayed because the prosecution needed more time to gather discovery. His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, claimed the prosecutors failed to be punctual when turning over evidence.
Majors Denies Allegations
It has been reported that the star has a history of “extreme abuse.” Additional women have also come forward with similar accusations to Jabbari. She has since dropped the strangulation charge, but this doesn’t prevent Majors from facing jail time if convicted.
Majors’ lawyer claims he is the real victim of the case, and the charges are fueled by “racial bias.” Variety provided a statement from Chaudhry after the case was delayed:
Majors is the real victim in this shameful ordeal. He has had his life, career, and reputation torn apart. Yet he remains unwavering in his determination to be absolved from this harrowing ordeal.
Disney Keeps Quiet
Majors began his rise to fame with his roles in hit series and films, including Lovecraft Country and Da 5 Bloods. The delay is just another uncertainty surrounding him, raising questions about the potential implications for his career. He has already faced professional repercussions, with his management company and publicist dropping ties with him and losing prominent roles. His latest appearance in the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania solidified his presence as the major Phase 5 Marvel villain, and Disney has yet to sever ties with him officially.
The Jonathan Majors court case is one of several controversies surrounding Disney stars. Recently, Tanoch Huerta, who played Namor in the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sequel, has been accused of sexual assault. However, Disney has kept quiet on these issues, though it will be interesting to see how it handles them. Previously, a case against Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp ultimately ended in his favor, but the actor felt betrayed by Disney for cutting ties with him.
