‘Jurassic World’ Live-Action TV Series: What We Might See

As the countdown to Jurassic World Rebirth begins, fans are eagerly anticipating the next chapter of this beloved franchise. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, 2014) and written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park), the seventh film arrives on July 2, 2025.

But the future might not stop at the big screen. Rumors of a live-action Jurassic World television series being in development at Peacock have surfaced, raising exciting possibilities. Here’s what we might expect if these rumors come to life.

1. Limited by the Jurassic World Film Series Timeline

Universal has a history of keeping TV tie-ins within the established movie timeline. Scott Kreamer, the showrunner of Chaos Theory, explained that Universal didn’t allow the animated series to go beyond the events of Jurassic World Dominion. If a live-action series follows the same rules, it wouldn’t extend past the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth.

2. Separate but Connected

Unlike Marvel’s closely intertwined film and TV universe, a Jurassic World series would likely operate independently. Similar to The Mandalorian in the Star Wars franchise, it might nod to the films without requiring viewers to follow every storyline. This could give creators more room to explore new characters and fresh narratives within the established world.

3. A Modest Budget

Even with the rise of high-budget TV productions, a Jurassic World series would likely cost less than the movies. While the dinosaurs may not look quite as polished as their big-screen counterparts, advancements in CGI and practical effects should still deliver plenty of spectacle.

4. A New Cast of Jurassic World Characters

A live-action TV series probably wouldn’t rely on the franchise’s mainstays, like Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady or Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing. Instead, it might focus on original characters while occasionally referencing or connecting to the films’ events.

5. A Lean, Eight-Episode Format

If the rumored series gets the green light, it’s likely to follow the modern trend of eight-episode seasons. This format allows for tight, impactful storytelling, avoiding the pitfalls of unnecessary filler. If done right, each episode could feel as refined as the franchise’s short film, Battle at Big Rock.

Could a Jurassic World TV Series Announcement Be Around the Corner?

With Jurassic World Rebirth on the horizon, Universal might be waiting for the film’s release before making any announcements about a live-action series. Considering the success of similar expansions in other franchises, this could be the next logical step.

For now, fans can look forward to Jurassic World Rebirth, which stars stars Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer). Additional cast members include Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Mahershala Ali (The Green Book), Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (Dead Boy Detectives), Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs Lopez), Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF), and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).
