Earlier this week, a nightmare scenario occurred for Disney guests (and all theme park visitors). A malfunctioning roller coaster at Disney California Adventure Park forced dozens of guests to evacuate the ride from 120 feet in the air.

Incredicoaster Breakdown and Evacuation
One park guest shared their story of the Incredicoaster breakdown on X (formerly Twitter).
Last night, one of my biggest theme park anxiety's came to fruition. I know this may be a bucket list for many but 120ft down w nothing but a handrail does crazy things to your mind & legs. I have stronger thoughts about Disney's laughable evac & post-evac policy for another time pic.twitter.com/e9qlbhkDP4

This is not the first time that Disneyland Resort (or Walt Disney World Resort, for that matter) has had a ride breakdown. Last week, we reported on Space Mountain breaking down at Magic Kingdom Park, forcing guests to walk down the lift hill.

The Rethemed Disney Roller Coaster
The broken ride was the Incredicoaster (formerly California Screamin’). The only official roller coaster at Disney California Adventure, it is also one of the tallest rides in the theme park and the only attraction at the park that flips guests upside down.
Its most significant drop is 108′, and the launching coaster reaches a top speed of 55 mph. Originally known as California Screamin’ when the California-themed theme park debuted in 2001, it has since been rethemed to the Incredibles as part of the Pixar Pier section of the park.

Evacuation Aftermath
When a ride evacuation is initiated, Disney’s process is based on the company’s protocols.
My first time being evac’d from Incredicoaster. It was incredibly fun for me but a strong reminder of why it’s important to be aware of people around you, since other people were clearly terrified from the experience. pic.twitter.com/NCtBJ4XfLf

Many people have criticized Disney’s recent evacuation process, pointing out that Disney cast members are given straps and harnesses to protect them. In contrast, park guests are only given the handrail as they walk down.

However, it is worth noting that all the guests appear to have made it down safely. Although the trek down the peak of one of Disneyland Resort’s tallest attractions might cause some mental stress…it’s over for those who experienced it.
