For decades the Walt Disney Company has been an untouchable entity. After Walt Disney founded the eventual entertainment giant in 1923, it slowly became one of the most culturally relevant and popular names in contemporary times. The company is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, a milestone in itself, and with that is practically cementing its place in history, no matter what the future will bring.

Criticisms of the Walt Disney Company

Despite all of these achievements, or perhaps accounting for the fact that when you’re this big and global, you can’t please everyone, Disney has been on the receiving end of much backlash recently. The Mouse House has upset fans who believe the company is becoming increasingly “woke” as time passes. This is for decisions like casting Black actress and singer Halle Bailey in The Little Mermaid, retheming the now-defunct Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and more.

As Disney has been creating increasingly frustrated fans, other production houses and studios are stepping up to try and corner the market that Disney is ostensibly losing out on.

Universal Steps Up to Take On Disney

Over the last few years, Universal has emerged as a worthy competitor to the Mouse House. From its theme parks in Orlando to its movies and entertainment, the company has proved itself to be able to take the Walt Disney Company on and stand its ground. CEO Brian Roberts has spoken about it and addressed it before as well, noting that Universal was gaining market share in the business. Most recently, the success of The Super Mario Bros. movie also demonstrated Universal’s ability to take on the Mouse House.

However, now, it appears another contender may throw its hat in the ring, and it’s one that is also connected to The Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo Looks to Create Its Own Line of Princesses

Japanese gaming company Nintendo is reportedly planning to create a series of films about its own famous princesses, per YouTuber WDW Pro, as reported by The Western Journal.

WDW Pro said, “one of our sources came forward to tell me some deeply interesting information regarding Nintendo, the Nintendo Cinematic Universe, Illumination, etc.” The YouTuber pointed to the inclusion of Princess Daisy in the “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” video game that was announced on June 21.

“Why does it matter at all that Daisy is in this game, and who the heck is Daisy?” WDW Pro asked, then answered, “Well, she’s a princess, and that’s a big deal because we have heard from sources that Illumination intends… to bring forth a princess movie.”

“We believe that they also want to push the princess line into the toy lines,” WDW Pro said.

The YouTuber also added, “I know it sounds a little out there, but I promise it is what they are doing, and it is hand in hand with Illumination as they begin to build out a full roster of entertainment featuring the princesses.”

Will this new line of princesses be able to de-throne Disney and its empire? Only time will tell.
