The Most Popular Show on Disney+ Isn’t a Disney Show

In November 2019, The Walt Disney Company launched its very own streaming platform — Disney+. In that short time, the streamer has amassed nearly 200 million subscribers. Since the beginning, Disney executives have been honest that Disney+ would not see a profit until 2024, and the company is still on track to meet that goal. Experts have said that Disney+ is hemorrhaging too much money and Disney should cancel it, but with Bob Iger stepping back in as CEO, things are staying as they are.

Disney+ is a great streaming service, with hundreds of movies and television shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, LucasFilm, and more. Disney has created a number of original hit shows, including The Mandalorian, WandaVision, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and Andor. The company also has access to a ton of content thanks to its purchase of 20th Century Fox in 2019. A ton of great Fox shows and movies are available to stream on Disney+, like The Sound of Music, Home Alone, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and more.

Fox programming is so popular that one of its shows is more in demand than any of Disney’s original programming. According to a report from The Wrap, The Simpsons is the most popular show on Disney+, beating out the next most popular show, The Mandalorian, by a large margin.

“The Simpsons” is one family-friendly series on Disney+ that stands above the rest as consistently popular with audiences. It had the highest demand last month (52.75 times the average series demand) and has been one of the most popular shows on Disney+ since it first launched. The fact that the show is currently airing episodes plus a catalog of its previous 33 seasons helps make “The Simpsons” one of the most powerful assets in Disney+’s lineup.

While Marvel Cinematic Universe films are some of the most successful that The Walt Disney Company produces, they are not the most popular movies on the streamer. Nor are their shows the most in-demand, although WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel all earned rave reviews (and even a few Emmy nominations) when they were released.
