TRON Officially Makes its Mark on the Magic Kingdom

TRON: Lightcycle/Run has been the talk of the town recently. The Tomorrowland thrill ride is slotted to open to the public this April, and Disney fans have been buzzing with excitement. Previews for the attraction have already begun, with the Walt Disney World Annual Pass holders and D23 Gold members getting their due. And now, Disney has made the imminent debut of this attraction even more official with its latest move: adding TRON to the My Disney Experience map.

In this thrill ride, Guests can “Climb aboard your very own Lightcycle and take off on a high-speed adventure, racing against the Grid’s most menacing Programs. Surge past your fierce opponents as you attempt to cross through 8 Energy Gates and secure your team’s victory—so you can survive to race another day.” A ride that was inspired initially by the 1982 film which was the first production “to mix live action with computer-generated visuals and backlit animation,” TRON has kept fans waiting for years for its open with Walt Disney Imagineering working hard to bring the project to fruition and Disney Park fans are thrilled it’s finally here.

Journalist Scott Gustin took to Twitter to share the news that TRON has officially been added to the digital map in the My Disney Experience app.

Putting TRON: Lightcycle/Run on the My Disney Experience app is momentous; it’s as notable as when Disney took off Splash Mountain from the Park maps the day after it closed, causing a bit of an uproar among fans. Regardless, fans are incredibly excited about this upcoming ride, and Disney is pulling out the stops regarding press coverage as well—as Disney Fanatics will know, the Magic Kingdom land, Tomorrowland, is going to be closing early tomorrow for this reason.

Now that TRON is officially a part of the My Disney Experience map it’s making the ride’s debut that much more exciting as it’s becoming more real. TRON is opening to the public officially on April 4, 2023, and we can’t wait to hear what fans think; so far, the review has been incredibly favorable!

The ride will use a virtual queue, and Guests will need to use the My Disney Experience app to enter. Disney has specified that a boarding group will be subject to limited availability. It also won’t be on the Disney Genie suite’s Genie+, and Lightning Lane included attractions. Rather Guests can purchase an Individual Lightning Lane for it, similar to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT and Avatar Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

After making its initial debut in Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, the Walt Disney Company announced during the 2017 D23 Expo that it would also be debuting in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park in the Central Florida Disney Resort. Similar to its Shanghai Disneyland counterpart, the Disney Theme Park attraction is highly anticipated. It’s located in Tomorrowland, along with other attractions like Space Mountain.
