Visiting Magic Kingdom Park? It’s been a quiet few years as the Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for well over 1,300 days… and counting. BUT – we see glimmers of hope as Disney reveals the latest Railroad update.

The iconic Walt Disney World attraction that circles Magic Kingdom Park has been closed since December 3, 2018. Disney needed to close the train ride as construction began on the highly-anticipated attraction coming to Tomorrowland called TRON Lightcycle Run.

And while TRON Lightcycle Run has taken much longer than any of us ever anticipated, it has put a lengthy hold on riding the classic train attraction around its roughly 20-minute trip encircling the Disney Park.

The steam engine train ride features four vintage narrow-gauge steam trains, which were originally built between 1916 and 1928. There is something about the magical clamor of the engine, the chug of the wheels, and the call of the whistle that made this Walt Disney World Resort experience unlike any other.

While Disney has teased some updates in the past, we’re thrilled with the latest news!

On July 22, 2022, Walt Disney World Cast and Community Facebook posted, “Our week started off on the right track! Our first group of Magic Kingdom Cast Members began TRAINing – the next step in the ongoing process to restore the Walt Disney World Railroad. Welcome aboard, and welcome home Engineers! #DisneyCastLife#MKCast”

YES! If training is underway, that can only mean plans to open the attraction are sure to be announced soon.

We have also seen updates, including a visible roller coaster train and light testing on TRON Lightcylce Run. Disney has been working to construct a locomotive tunnel through the roller coaster so the Walt Disney World Railroad can complete its loop.

As of right now, when the WDW Railroad does reopen, we can still expect the same 1.5-mile loop with the three stations, including the one near the entrance to the Disney Park on Main Street, U.S.A., the Frontierland Station, and the Fantasyland Station.

We will be sure to share further details about the Walt Disney Railroad as soon as Disney reveals them!
