Where is Disney’s 2022 Promise? New Year Off to a Rocky Start

disney world trams return

It seems that Walt Disney World still hasn’t quite recovered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Walt Disney World Resort is treasured by all Disney fans and Guests for its unique offerings, be that in its Theme Parks—Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom—its shows and spectaculars—like Harmonious, Fantasmic!—its rides and attractions, and the immersive Disney experience it provides.

But there’s one part of the Disney experience Guests missed for over 600 days before a partial return, and it’s to do with transportation. Walt Disney World offers Guests many modes of transportation to and from the Parks, think the Monorail at EPCOT and Magic Kingdom or the watercraft services that can travel to Hollywood Studios and multiple resorts. An essential element of travel has always been the parking lot trams that take Guests from their cars to the Park gates. Unfortunately, these trams were just one of the many things cut from Disney during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

While Disney promised in December 2021 that these trams would return to all Disney Parks by the end of 2022, as of Jan 2, 2023, this has still not happened. The trams did return to the Transportation and Ticket Center in December of 2021 and to Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2022. However, EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios still lay bare; Walt Disney World went with a whopping 644 days without any tram service until it returned to the Transportation and Ticket Center.

The complimentary tram service has been missed at the Disney Parks by all fans and Guests, and many have become frustrated with the lack of clarity surrounding its return.

Here’s hoping the trams see a full return to the Disney Resort in 2023 and this new year brings fans and Guests the full Disney experience they know and love.

We at Disney Fanatic will continue to report on all Disney Park news.
