Last night (January 7) was the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. But among the many Golden Globe Award winners and speeches given, one moment that has many people abuzz is Gillian Anderson. Why? Because on the red carpet, she debuted her dress featuring elements of the female anatomy.
The Anatomy-Inspired Dress
The 55-year old actress wore a gown by Gabriela Hearst. “[I wore it] for so many reasons,” she told Deadline on the red carpet. She also defended it as “brand appropriate.”
Gillian Anderson’s red carpet look also accompanied Chopard jewels, including a white gold necklace and yellow diamonds. But very few people are commenting about her jewelry.

Each motif on the label took over 3 hours to embroider according to the designer. Many have considered her decision to wear a dress (that she likely knew would be controversial) was fitting based on her show Sex Education.

In the series, she plays a sex therapist and overbearing mother, who hosts many workshops and similar designs throughout the character’s home.

As expected, many people had opinions on the actress choosing to wear something so…anatomical.
Social Media Reaction
On X (formerly Twitter) opinions included a user saying “It’s beautiful to see Women standing up for Women.”
Meanwhile, there were also comments such as “Gross”, “Idiot” and “How absolutely absurd, tasteless and tacky.”
Others have been claiming that it’s just a way for the actress to seek attention and stay relevant in today’s Hollywood culture.

Also, many comments started to engage in political and culture war arguments discussing abortion, women’s rights, and transgender rights.
Disney X-Files Reboot
It has recently been speculated that Gillian Anderson may be reprising her role as Dana Scully in Disney’s reboot of the X-Files. Her return and the return of David Duchovny (as Fox Mulder) have not been confirmed.
Although many details have not been officially released by Disney, the new X-Files will be captained by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.
Chris Carter, the original creator of the 90s sci-fi series has explained that the new version of the show will have a more diverse cast.
Under the Disney label (via Miramax), Gillian Anderson starred in The Mighty (1998) and Playing by Heart (1998).
