For the second year in a row, the Walt Disney Company (along with a few others) has made the “Worst of the Woke” list.
The Walt Disney Company has had an eventful year, to say the least. Walt Disney World Resort saw multiple clashes with Florida governor Ron DeSantis starting with the Parental Rights in Education (also referred to as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill) controversy, the Reedy Creek Improvement Act. Things have gotten so tense for the Mouse House that Iger, on his return, even said he regretted having Disney get so involved in political issues during Chapek’s tenure as Disney’s CEO.
Along with this, on the business end of things, Disney’s year hasn’t been smooth either. They have seen dramatic reorganization of the company, with former Disney CEO Bob Chapek being asked to leave the Mouse House and his predecessor, Bob Iger, returning to take the helm. Disney’s stock has also seen a fall, especially recently with the performance of Avatar 2 at the box office.
Many fans and Disney Fanatics have insisted that a big cause for many of the issues Disney has been embroiled in comes down to the company’s “wokeness.”
It appears that the New Tolerance Campaign agrees; as reported by Fox News, Disney has made their “Worst of the Woke” list for the second year in a row. Disney, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), BlackRock, and Twitter each made the NTC’s “Worst of the Woke” list for the second year.
NTC president Gregory T. Angelo told Fox News Digital, “The past year was rife with institutions saying one thing and doing another — from sports to tech and college campuses — woke absurdity lurked at every turn.” He continued, “But 2022 was also notable for the pushback wokeism rightly received — Disney was stripped of its preferred status in Florida, Olympics ratings clocked in at a record low, and Elon Musk took a sledgehammer to Twitter censorship following an aggressive takeover.”
Angelo concluded, “This was the year that woke got a wake-up call.”
We at Disney Fanatic will continue to report on all Disney news.
