Tomorrowland is arguably one of the most iconic areas of a Disney castle park (perhaps second to Fantasyland). It is also one of the largest themed areas of both Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park.

Although the attractions vary between the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort versions, they all contain Space Mountain, the Astro Orbiter, and a Buzz Lightyear shooting dark ride.

Space Mountain

The iconic Space Mountain opened in 1975 at Magic Kingdom Park and became such a success that it was added to Disneyland Park in 1977. The indoor coaster sent guests through a high-speed thrill ride into the cosmos.

Despite the age of the coaster, it still remains one of the most popular rides at Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park to this day.

So perhaps it’s no surprise that one of Disneyland’s biggest competitors is trying to replicate its success.

According to reports, Legoland California is building its own Space Mountain-like roller coaster. Expected to open in 2025, the indoor coaster will be the main attraction in the theme park’s space-themed area… similar to Disney’s Tomorrowland.

The new area will be a “Lego Galaxy-themed land.” Although the plans are still in their initial concept, the indoor coaster for the area will be a space-mission-themed indoor roller coaster housed in a “spaceport.”

The Legoland “Tomorrowland” will also include a spinner-type ride (perhaps similar to Astro Orbiter) and an alien spaceship-themed playground. The new area will replace the current Driving School attractions in the Lego City area.

The current plans include moving the Driving School rides to another Legoland park.

It was also announced that a new land called Dino Valley will debut in 2024 with a new dinosaur safari and river rides.

About Steven

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
