In just seven days, Pixar fans will return to the movie theaters for the first time since the release of Onward. Disney/Pixar’s Lightyear is an action-pact adventure set to tell the origin story of the hero behind the toy first discovered in Andy’s room almost 30 years ago. The early reviews are starting to come in, and they appear to be setting high expectations.

Here are what some critics are saying about the movie:

@patbreviews says, “#Lightyear is an absolute blast! Great story that fits perfectly within the Toy Story world. With an out of this world voice cast, you’ll be taken on a fun Sci-Fi space adventure, to infinity and beyond! #pixar”

@hollywoodhandle said, “PREPARE THE WIPES! #Lightyear is BEAUTIFUL!! The film is an epic adventure, which has a solid message, and many intense moments. with this movie, we understand why Andy loves Buzz!”

@Payorwait said, “#Lightyear is out of this world fantastic! A fun & heartfelt film that revived my childhood nostalgia while taking me on a new epic sci-fi journey. @ChrisEvans does a great job taking over the mantle as #BuzzLightyear & #Sox is my fave Pixar character & completely stole the show. I got emotional while watching @KekePalmer and @UzoAduba characters in #Lightyear. To know that young Black kids will grow up seeing strong, intelligent, and beautiful Black women in their childhood films made my heart smile. Felt so good to see my world included on screen.”

Buzz Lightyear, Space Ranger, appeared in four Toy Story films voiced by Tim Allen. He instantly became one of the most beloved characters in the proverbial Disney toy chest. Fans were able to get a glimpse of the “real” Buzz Lightyear through a straight-to-video movie and Toon Disney animated series called Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, starring Patrick Warburton in the title role. But, that material appears to be retconned as a different Buzz Lightyear origin story is getting ready to be told, starring Chris Evans in the title role alongside a supporting cast featuring Keke Palmer, Uzo Aduba, Taika Waititi, Peter Sohn, and James Brolin.

Disney/Pixar’s Lightyear launches into theaters on June 17, 2022.

We at Disney Fanatic will be providing our own review of the film in time, and we will be updating our readers on more Disney Movie news as more developments come to light.
