If you ask Disney Fanatics about their favorite theme park experiences, there is bound to be a solid mix of answers.
Some Disney fans will sing the praises of Animal Kingdom shows, while others will discuss their love of fireworks or their passion for Character Meet and Greets in theme parks like the Magic Kingdom.
Others will focus on amenities like themed lounges or restaurants — but a hefty portion of Disney fans will most likely include Disney theme park roller coasters (such as Space Mountain or Expedition Everest) in their Disney vacation must-do lists!
Some Disney roller coasters are relatively mild when it comes to nausea or fright levels — but the new EPCOT ride inspired by the Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy film series has developed a disturbing reputation when it comes to leaving passengers nauseated!
Too “Cosmic” a “Rewind” for Mortals?
Walt Disney World Resort and EPCOT guests have been complaining about nausea and disorientation since the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster made its debut, and although the complaints don’t hold a candle to the complaints about this Disneyland ride, they are certainly significant.
Josh D’Amaro, the Disney Chairman of Parks, Experiences, and Products, spoke about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind during the highly-anticipated Destination D23 event today.
D’Amaro made it clear (while discussing the roller coaster) that he was a big fan of the EPCOT thrill ride — but he also emphasized that the ride needed to be enjoyed in small doses.
“Take It Easy”
“Take it easy,” the popular Disney Chairman said with a laugh and a ‘slow down’ gesture while onstage during Destination D23.
The Disney executive did express enthusiasm for the relatively new EPCOT roller coaster, but he also pointed out (more than once) that he typically was able to ride the roller coaster no more than twice in a row — and even twice was still a “maybe.”
If any ambitious Disney Fanatics wanted to try the Walt Disney World Resort roller coaster for a third time in a row, D’Amaro again made it clear that that decision should be a “maybe” and they should really “take it easy!” in order to avoid motion sickness!
Proceed With Caution
Are you surprised to learn that Disney’s team members approved a roller coaster despite knowing, from their personal experience, that it could cause discomfort — or do you think that discomfort comes with the territory whenever anyone is riding a roller coaster, and that the Disney Chairman’s comments should just be taken in stride?
How does the Cosmic Rewind ride compare to roller coasters like the new TRON roller coaster in the Magic Kingdom, in your opinion?
