Many Disney enthusiasts already could surmise that Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort were struggling with understaffed maintenance departments and a lack of theme park ride mechanics, even before reports of that shortage were shared in this article.
After all, the “ridiculous” number of Disney Park ride breakdowns have been increasing, so much so that many Disney Park Guests genuinely anticipate ride breakdowns or malfunctions during their Disney vacations. Now, the staggering number of ride breakdowns has reached a new high — and, in a way, a new low for Disney Guests!
Splash Mountain, Disneyland Resort/Disney
On the night of December 8, multiple Disneyland Resort rides were all closed at the same time. These rides included Space Mountain, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Indiana Jones Adventure, Splash Mountain, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredicoaster, and Jessie’s Critter Carousel.

One Cast Member actually commented and joined the discussion (where people were discussing possible reasons for the mass closure). The Cast Member, U/Throwawaygirl1713, said that “lame” failures like this were “difficult because 90% of guests blame the ride operators for the result of maintenance budget cuts”.
The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Disneyland ride
The Cast Member also pointed fingers towards former CEO Bob Chapek and current Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger, as well as rich Disney visitors who sometimes request private rides. but did seem to specifically cite “maintenance budget cuts” as a factor in this dramatic multi-ride shutdown.
The Reddit user and Cast Member also pointed out that being unable to reveal the causes for breakdowns or shutdowns is another frustrating part of the Disney job, mentioning that Disney Guests’ bad behavior has continued to be a problem as well.

Disney Guests do indeed seem to be getting used to ride breakdowns on their Disney vacations, but with Disney prices rising and Disney discontent outpacing Disney magic, maintenance issues like this have become a big source of negative customer experiences for Disney Parks!
