Is a Powerline Ride Finally Coming to Disney World?

Ask any Disney guest of a certain generation and we can guarantee that they dream of a Powerline ride coming to Walt Disney World.

We’ve seen new Disney attractions like TRON Lightcycle / Run, Journey of Water Inspired by Moana,  and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind come to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks recently, but a Disney attraction centered on A Goofy Movie (1995) is something that would truly be magic.

But what attraction in the Disney Parks could be taken over as a Disney Powerline ride soon?

A Goofy Movie follows the father-son relationship between Goofy and high-school-age Max, as Goofy takes his son on a cross-country fishing trip in an effort to bond with him. Max, on the other hand, is uninterested after promising his love interest, Roxanne, that he will be at the Powerline concert in Los Angeles.

The movie’s soundtrack has gained a cult following, featuring songs like “After Today,” “Stand Out,” and “I 2 I.”

Fans of the ’90s Disney movie were treated to Max Goof appearing in a Powerline cosplay at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom last year. Max danced down Main Street U.S.A. in his Powerline costume. On occasion, Max and Goofy have also been known to perform their iconic “Perfect Cast” dance routine at Moonlight Magic events, which are exclusive to members of Disney Vacation Club.

But what fans really want is a whole Disney Powerline ride.

Dinosaur, the Goofy Version?

OK, hear us out. This beloved dark ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been there since the theme park opened on April 22, 1998, and is starting to show its age.

The rest of DinoLand U.S.A. has also lost some of its magic lately, with another attraction – Primeval Whirl – being demolished to become a seating area. Disney Park bosses have already discussed the “blue sky” possibilities of what Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama could be turned into, including a South America area featuring Encanto (2021), Coco (2017), and Indiana Jones franchise elements.

So, we’re adding another “blue sky” idea to the mix: how fun would Dinosaur be as A Goofy Movie ride? The attraction could be inspired by the “On the Open Road” sequence, with the ride vehicle becoming Max and Goofy’s car as they road-trip across America to get to the Powerline concert.

The dark ride could go through Lester’s Possum Park, meet Bigfoot, drive into the Grand Canyon, and end up in Los Angeles. All with the epic movie soundtrack along for the ride.

Splash Mountain to Powerline Ride?

Disney’s iconic attraction, Splash Mountain, has recently closed at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Park in California, and Disney Park guests are split over the water ride’s retheme.

With Disney’s push to be more “inclusive,” the Disney ride is being revamped due to its controversial Song of the South (1946) theme. Splash Mountain is becoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in 2024 and will continue the story of Princess Tiana and Naveen from The Princess and the Frog (2009).

But what if Disney CEO Bob Iger secretly turned it into a Disney Powerline ride instead?

The Magic Kingdom attraction could become the Colorado River and send Guests on a wild water ride just like Goofy and Max in the movie. We’re not sure if the log flume could be turned into a “car flume,” but we would certainly go from one catchy soundtrack in “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” to “I 2 I”! The Grand Canyon setting would also suit the Frontierland area of Magic Kingdom, too.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Powerline

Here’s the big one. The one that we think has the most promise.

We can’t stop thinking about this indoor launched roller coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios being changed into a Powerline ride. The plot of A Goofy Movie would lend itself perfectly to the structure of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, with the track becoming Max and Goofy’s road trip adventure to get to the Powerline concert.

Universal Music Group has actually recently gained control of the Aerosmith music catalog. Disney and Aerosmith had a contract that would stand even with the exchange of the catalog rights, but it is rumored that this contract is set to expire soon. And this means that the Walt Disney World attraction Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith may have to be reimagined.

So what better music act to replace Aerosmith than the ’90s legend, Powerline? Imagine singing along to “Stand Out” while screaming at nearly 60 m.p.h.!

Of course, this is all just speculation and these are our ideas of what ride could get a Goofy and Max makeover, but which Walt Disney World Resort attraction at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom do you think should be turned into a Powerline ride?
