Recent reports claim that ABC News President Kim Godwin’s days with the company are numbered after her “effective demotion.”

Employees Think Kimberly Godwin, President of ABC News, Days are Numbered
The NY Post recently reported that despite Kim Godwin’s contract being renewed, some sources within the company believe her time is limited. Staffers are reportedly quietly cheering on this reality.
Disney recently created a new division helmed by Debra O’Connell, which would include ABC News, with Godwin reporting to her. O’Connell is meant to step in and help declining ratings with formerly popular shows like “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight with David Muir.”
“It’s called the cost of doing business,” said a former Disney exec. “Renew her. Guarantee three years of money and then let her de-select and decide it’s time to go write her leadership book, which she is planning.”

When Godwin was named President of ABC News, it was historic. She was the first Black woman to lead an American broadcast network.
However, this achievement notwithstanding, many believe Godwin doesn’t have much time left. They believe her contract renewal is a sign of the times for the executive.
“This is the beginning of the transition [of Godwin’s exit],” said one source close to the network. “Everyone gets renewed and then dumped. It’s the ABC News and Disney way.”
ABC News has certainly had its fair share of controversy, whether with GMA anchors Amy Robach and TJ Holmes affair or with the recent criticism leveled at the news outlet.
Only time will tell what will become of Kim Godwin and her position within Disney and ABC News.
