2022 Review: Best Things to Come from Disney

Disney Parks 2022

2022 has been a tumultuous chapter in The Walt Disney Company’s story. The year was marked by a Theme Park experience that appeared to be spiraling downward, both in general quality and Guest-on-Guest altercations, multiple 52-week lows for its stock price, and a culture war. Promised attractions are either still incomplete or completely canceled, long-anticipated movies manifested box office bombs, and the cost of Disney Magic is going nowhere but up.

However, there were still some shining moments. So, here are the three best things to come from The Walt Disney Company in 2022.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Opened

There was a lot of disappointment felt by Guests at the Disney Parks this year, but one home run was Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The new EPCOT attraction opened earlier this year and gave a whole new definition to the roller coaster experience. It is one of the longest indoor roller coasters in existence and delivers a totally unique experience from the pre-show transitions to the reverse launch. It is, in my opinion, one of the best rides in operation at any Orlando-area Theme Park.

Disney Cruise Line Dropped Restrictions, Expanding

New Disney Cruise Line Ship

After having the longest-lived and most draconian covid-19 related mandates in the cruising industry, 2022 finally saw Disney Cruise Line put those restrictions to bed. On top of that, 2022 was a year of unprecedented expansion for the cruise line, as the Disney Wish finally joined the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder, and Disney Magic, and the Disney Wonder was confirmed to spearhead Disney’s expansion to Australia and New Zealand. But Disney Cruise Line was not done. The award-winning cruise company acquired the massive incomplete ship Global Dream, which will be retrofitted for sailings outside of the United States.

So Many Disney Anniversaries!

50th Anniversary

2022 was a year of several different Disney anniversaries the world over. With the Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th Anniversary already in full swing (opening October 1, 1971), EPCOT’s 40th Anniversary was added to the celebrations (opening Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1982). Across the Atlantic, Disneyland Paris Resort began celebrating its 30th Anniversary Celebration (opening April 12, 1992), and across the Pacific, Tokyo Disney Resort has just begun preparing for its 40th Anniversary Celebration (opening April 15, 1983). While celebrations don’t begin until 2023, Disney Fans were treated to the announcement of Disney Cruise Line’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. It was also announced that the Disneyland Resort would kick off the Disney100 world celebration in January.

This was a unique time for Disney Parks and Experiences, as the multitude of anniversaries should stand as a reminder to the magical legacy of the Theme Parks, Resorts, and Cruise Ships Disney has built over the years. There is a reason why the Disney Park family has lasted as long as they have, and there is hope that they will still be here in another 25, 30, 40, and even 50 years.

2023 holds a lot of new Disney magic to behold around the world, and we at Disney Fanatic will be here to give you the latest news and stories as they come to light.
